run adaware, and make sure your browser is not hijacked

got to kazaa, get a "trial" version of panicware's pop up killer, it's the best there is, stopzilla and the rest don't work as well..

Get a copy of norton 2003 why you are there to stomp out viruses as well..

For some reason the XP Firewall was disabled and said I had to do a restore or somethign to correct it. I just deleted the connection and built another and I was able to enable the firewall again. Also ran the net stop messenger command from the run box and that said something about it being disabled.

Thanks everybody for the help.

Blah! Just stop and dissable the Messenger service in the Administrative Tools / Services applet. Absolutely no need to install a program that all it's going to do is the same thing.

Unless you have a glaring need for the Messenger Service (it's not associated with MSN Messenger, or Windows Messenger, so dissabling it won't affect either of those IM's), there's really no reason to have it running. And you'll never see that shit again

Man, that took a lot of postings for someone to get it right.

Using Net Stop only stops the service and doesn't disable it.

Firewalls do not disable the Messenger service, they only block the network port that the Messenger Service uses.

It's the first thing (or one of) that I do on any new installation of an NT based OS.
