FS: Jesus Christ

My wife is in Poland visting her parents. While there she decided to take our 5 month old baby girl to get baptized, because its a tradition in her family. I know very little about the Catholic Church, but what I'm learning is amazing to me. First I find out you got to pray for everything and I mean everything. If you ask the preist to say a prayer for you or your family he will give you a price. It cost me $350.00 to get him to wave his hand and dab some water on my babys forehead. Since my wife and I weren't married in the Church he told her God doesn't reconize our marriage and she can't have the wine and wafer. Don't get me wrong I know it takes money to run a Church, I give to mine every Sunday. But come on, when my wifes grandfather died, they asked the preist to say a prayer for him and they were given a price list.

I'm a man. I can change, if I have to, I guess.

Thumbs Down

All I can says is this is why we had the Reformation....if you don't know anything about it look into it...is was a period in the 16th century aimed at reforming some doctrines and practices of the Roman Catholic Church and resulted in the establishment of the Protestant churches.

I've never seen it required in a Catholic church for someone to pay anything for any occasions, and we've had 4 baptized recently. We've never been approached by the church on anything financially, so I'm a little surprised, but maybe they operate a little differently in Poland. Now the marriage thing is a little different and has been a big problem for many poeple. Even if the marriage isn't recognized though, that shouldn't have stopped her from having the wine and wafer, as long as she is Catholic. I have to admit, the price list would not go over well with me either.

Reason #458764597464 why I don't claim any denomination!

My relationship with Christ is a personal one. I don't think I need to have a middle man for my prayer requests and to ask for forgiveness.

Midnight- you might not have been ask for anything since you're a member (I'm guessing).

I've known of offering a donation but never been given a price list. There are several churches that claim to be "Catholic" but really aren't. They may just be a denomination. But never in my life, have I heard of anyone being given a price list. Even when I've had family members married at the Cathedral or even when my friend passed away this past march and was burried by the Bishop and six other priests. You could be going to the wrong Church....

Maybe you didn't read the post this church is in Europe and is over 700 years old. I guess they got tired of waiting on donations and just said this is how much everything costs.
