Question: How is the age of the bible determined?

Do people just go by what the book says, or do they look at the copyright date in the preface somewhere?

Mostly by geneolgy.

I borrowed this off of another forums board.

Quote:
Before the flood (Noah), there were 10 generation and counting the generations from the flood to Abraham was another 10 generations and then looking at Luke 1:17 we see that there were 14 generations from Abraham to David and from David to Jesus 28 generations. Doing some math’s here we will get to 4000 years to Christ.

So that takes us through the Old Testament, from Creation to the birth of Jesus. While there are inferences to recorded events in ancient history found within the OT,(with which we can determine age), the NT has many more giving a very accurate age.

This is true. You can actually add up all the generations from Adam through King David. Which is around 3000 years. Historical records outside the bible tells us that King David was ruler in Israel around 1000 bc.
