I have a crapload of spyware on my computer, and i really have no idea how to get it off. I have ad-aware, but it doesnt even put a dent into the amount of programs that run during startup.

How would i go about getting rid of all the "spyware"???

Thanks for all replies

Yeah i feel your pain man. Everything mentioned is a very good way of helping out. BEST was to use them is boot up in safety mode then run your scans. If you want to manually remove them use your search and type in the name of the program. Careful what you delete though. Also i didnt notice neone say microsoft antispyware. Add/remove programs is another good way as has been mentioned.

Good luck and...........porn is BAD for your computer!!

So is charter, I think they do it to you as well!

Yes, it can be done manually (without add/remove programs) but it is a pain in the ass and you have to know what you are looking for. You would have to boot into a safe environment, like a PE disk/cd and have a remote registry editor handy so that you can go in and remove bad entries. You would have to go through the system32 directory file by file and pick out the garbage. You can do this easier if you sort the files by date created. make sure you dump the temporary internet files and downloaded program files as well. If you are not familiar with how your OS works, do not attempt this unless you are ready to reload the OS anyway.

Another tool that I havent seen mentioned yet is Hijack This! version 1.99. It shouldn't be used unless you know your registry or have access to someone who can tell you what to get rid of.
