Unless you wait for the next (if there is one) lateral transfer academy you'll start at the base pay like everyone else. I'm not sure if they even considered it with the lateral one either. Might have started at the bottom in that one too. I'm sure if you call they can tell you.

they hire deputies off of the streets now. if cannaday wins then you can shove a feather in your ass and we would both be tickled to death because i've had enough of the lupe regime. i dont know when you get back but the next deputy teest is in aug. with a start date of oct.

edit: also you will go straight to traffic for prohbation after the academy and then from there you can transfer to the diff sections.

If you go to Garland, you'll be required to attend their FULL in house academy. Which from what I understand, really is an ass kicker.

I'm looking at going to another agency, but I sill have another year before I'm vested.

Lupe is nothing but a hack. I would take a pay cut to work under Bowles, though.

So how hard is it to get on with FWPD? I know of one guy who has applied 4 times andd never made it.
If you are accepted, what are the academy hours? can you still hold on to a outside job while going thru the academy?

How hard it is really depends on the person applying. I made it the first try had no problems at all but, I know people who have tried multiple times and failed as well as multiple times to make it so it's a little subjective.

You get paid while in the academy so there is no need to keep a job and the hours change multiple times due to some subjects that have to be done at night.

If you are already (TCLEOSE) Certified the only two cities that do not make you go thru the Police Academy again is Denton,Tx PD and Desoto,Tx PD you go staright into the (FTO) Field Training Program. I think it should be this way for all agencies, but thats just my 2 cents.

those aren't the only two cities. most small cities will not require you to go back through the academy (i.e. desoto, duncanville, lancaster, cedar hill, farmers branch, carrollton, so on and so forth) the cities that make you go back through are your larger cities/counties. and the main reason most cities make you go back through their academy is mainly due to the city not accepting laterals or the city wanting to train you on their city codes.

The reason i said that Denton and Desoto dont require you to go thru the Academy all over again is because they mention it on there Recruiting web-site while the other cities like Cedar Hill, Farmers Branch ect.. they do not mention this so thats why i thought those were the only two cities that did'nt make you go thru the Academy. but now i know. I still believe that if you are ceritified Peace Officer you should not go thru the Police academy like Dallas PD for 32 weeks, to me that a waste of time and money when they can put you thru a mini academy and just teach you the codes, rules ect..

With Dallas PD, though, there are city-specific policies and procedures, ordinances, etc. That you'll need to know. There is a lot more than just reviewing the traffic and penal code and leaning which way to point a gun. What you also have to understand about these cities that hold their own academy is that not every academy is really considered a "sufficient" source of training. Just because you pass from some places, doesn't mean that you're ready. Know what I mean? Dallas, and some other places, take it upon themselves to ensure that the people wearing their uniform are trained a certain way and thorough in their eyes.

I went through a community college and had no trouble with it at all. I think it could have been more thorough, but I still passed the TCLEOSE exam the first time through with an 82. I think it was more me than the academy. As a matter of fact, only 3 people passed their first time through the test in my class. There was even a few that passed the academy with ease, only to fail the test THREE TIMES. Take it for what you want, but I'm good either way.

its all gravy i was just giving you the heads up. i agree that you should not have to go back through penal code and traffic, however you should have to go through an academy specific to that department in my view. even though the constables (yuck) and us are both county entities we do things in a complete 180 of each other. i guess different strokes for different folks.

Well the way it reads is no college if you have a HS diploma. If you have a GED then you also need 12hrs of college. Feel free to call the phone number for recruitment if you wanna clarify it though.

What about an age limit? I thought I read somewhere once that there was an age limit to where they wouldn't accept someone over a certain age (35ish I think?)

Age limit for us is 44 as long as you don't turn 45 before your certification.

Well the academy is about 28 weeks I think. You usually take the TCLEOSE (State Certification) test few weeks before graduation. I can't remember for sure but, you have to be 21 before you graduate or before certification.

If you call or e-mail the recruiting Officer in that link they should be able to tell you all you need to know.

[email protected] is the e-mail

FWPD Recruiting Drive at Cats Game

At the Fort Worth Cats Baseball Game on Thursday, July 31, 2008 the Fort Worth Police Department will be hosting a recruitment drive. The Chief of Police will throw in the first pitch and the police honor guard will deliver the colors. Officer Oliver Hill will sing God Bless America (7th inning) and the police helicopter, Air One will deliver “Dodger” the mascot during the game to center field.

The Cats will offer FREE parking for this home game when fans show a gas receipt to park in the $3 lot... PLUS $1 off the price of any ticket… that adds up to $4, or ONE GALLON OF GAS!

Police Recruiters will have a table outside in the parking lot with a RV and also a recruiting table inside the stadium during the game.

Come and enjoy a night of baseball and apply for a rewarding career in one of the nation’s best law enforcement agencies, the Fort Worth Police Department.
