Looking for work in Mexico

I graduated this past August with a BA in Spanish and Political Science with a 3.6 GPA at UNT. On a scale of 1-5, I'm about a 3 in my speaking ability and a 4 in writing. I'd like to reach level 5 and that's why I need to immerse myself in a Latin country, it's not cutting it here. I checked out the consulates but most of those positions are for the locals, the embassy is looking for specific people with experience, of which I have no professional experience other than interning for Congressman Michael Burgess this past Spring semester. I've applied at a couple Engineering firms such as Bechtel and Technip for procurement opportunities since they look for people who are willing to relocate, but they are extremely slow in getting back with people in general. An ideal spot to work would be Guadalajara, it's for the most part very safe, very U.S. friendly and I had a blast while studying abroad there this summer. If you or someone you know may be able to help me out, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jim

I thought about that, but there would probably be too many English speaking people, that's not the kind of immersion I'm looking for.

I'd check tourist stuff. Check out the resorts. Check out the travel agencies that specialize in Mexican vacation packages. I would love to work at a resort in Mexico. You may not make much but life will be good.

I was in Oaxaca a few years ago killing some time and I met an American guy down there who was making a living teaching English. I never asked him how he went about doing that but I am sure you can find out with some help from google.

I have been thinking about being an English teacher but want to keep my options open at this point.

it's not as simple as one would think, you still have to apply for a work visa, ect.

But 90% of the people you work with will be speaking spanish.

Hell, even just being down there for two weeks this summer completely refreshed my mind. Granted i only had 3 years of high school spanish to begin with, I found myself speaking Spanish far more often than I did English, even when I had a choice.

Banks

i would try the banks in MEXICO City! OR in Guadalajara good paying jobs in that field. If you connect with the right people even if you have no eduaction you will have a high ranking job and getting paid! BUt since you know english and spanish it should be no problem with an education.

there's a book called CHOOSE MEXICO, you can buy or check out of library.
It's not simple to work down there especially an american citizen. The mex gov
makes it hard, you have to prove it's not a profession that a mex citizen can do.
This book shows ways around the "pinche governio"

Thanks, I'll look into that. Fortunately right now I met a couple guys from Columbia who work for Technip who are trying to help me get a job and then perhaps relocate to the Monterrey Mexico office. That would be awesome. A buddy of mine reffed an ice hockey tournament down there and apparently it's pretty big stuff. If I got a job down there, I could relive my glory days as a hockey player, I'd probably be the only gringo on the team
