You have to be old as hell , disabled or retarded . 2 of the 3 will get you hired , if you are all three , you'll be in charge in less than 6 months .

I used to work for US Customs and US District Court, federal level is definetly where it is at, not sure why I ever left the cush government life \

Anyways, if you are wanting federal law enforcement like Customs, everything is based off of testing initially, take a test, put on a list based on your score, goes from there, took me about 1.5 year to get that job.

The job with the Courts, had some inside track help for that, but still difficult in the end.

It definetly helps to have somebody in the know. I know one thing I would see resumes or applications from people that clearly had nothing related to the job they were applying for. Not saying that is the case for you, but just be sure you are applying for jobs you have all the KSA's for. (knowledge, skills, assesments)

i used to work for halliburton in afghanistan and that was a beeotch to get hired on. most government jobs are taken by ex- millitary personel or people with silver spoons up their ass with a degree.

There ya go. It also helps if you already have a clearance.

<--contractor working for Dept of State

You can spend minutes, hours, days, weeks, even months over analyzing a situation.. trying to put the pieces back together, justifying what could've, should've and would've happened or you can leave the pieces on the floor and move the fuck on!!

I'm more inclined to believe it is who ya know on that one. I'm ex-military, had a clearance at the time and was working in Iraq. Supposedly the local Dept of Homeland Security office in Denton was desperate for IT folks. Their job requirements could've just said..."We need ceyko." I sent my resume and spent a good 15 minutes filling out their application deal. Nothing.

I'm sure they hired some unqualified person, because he/she knew someone and now our tax dollars are going to their salary.

A clearance in the Dallas area is not that valuable. There are a few contract companies that'll use them and a couple of government companies. Depending on what you do for a living, check out Raytheon, Lockheed...and there was some contract company in Richardson that used people with clearances.

Otherwise, they become more popular in San Antonio and Killeen/Fort Hood.

The clearance is real neat to me since I do not mind going to war zones. You can be an idiot, but an idiot with a clearance and you can pull 150-200K a year. (80K tax free, only pay SS up to 86K) If you're IT, and have some certs you'll see 250K. This is in Iraq. Otherwise, Bosnia, Kosovo, Germany and a list of other places you could go.

If that does nott float your boat, look at Virginia. If you hold a top secret clearance, add about 15-20% to all those numbers listed.

Take care,

First you have to move about as fast as a snail. Second you should have no problem taking a lunch break even if you have a line of 15 people waiting in front of you.

Third you must find a way to spend all of budget even if you have a surplus (ie: $1500 egonomic chair.)

People with college degrees are rich?? I'll be paying on mine for the next 10 years... People who have college degrees just have some type of motivation to get them, yes earnings potential may be one but I made way more money before my degree than I do now.

Anyway, not sure what type of job you are trying to get with the government but try going to the GSA's website. There are hundreds of jobs listed there.

It's not hard to get a job with the TSA working as a cargo inspector or with Customs. There's some good money to be made in TSA or Customs. Not all TSA agents are baggage scanners at the airport.
