A plea for help...

How's it going everyone? Let's just cut to the chase.

I've been jobless for over a month and have applied to literally dozens of places. I've used monster, I've gone door to door. Frankly, I just get turned down everywhere. I have alot of experience in managing and supervising, and alot more in data entry and general computer work.

Some more background information, I am 18 years old and I have helped manage three company's, two corporations, and have started a few of my own business as well. I am highly experienced in HTML coding, Office programs, Flash, and A\V creations. In addition, I am highly self-sufficient and have earned everything I own (including all the furniture in my own apartment, food, gas, car, everything).

I'd appreciate it very much if someone could please point me in the correct direction or give me phone numbers or anything of that sort.

Thanks alot guys,
John Z.

Most of those I held at one time I've only had two jobs. One was two years, and the other was for 10 months.

Taak Inc = 1 Corporation = 2 Companies
Movie Grill Concepts Inc (Studio Movie Grill) = 1 Corporation = 2 Locations, Active at 1.

I guess I have a pretty big nose... but I think I'm still aesthetically pleasing enough for a job.

Question

How big a nose? Abnormally large, or just kinda big?

I'm actually wanting to work in the service industry for Honda, but I haven't gotten a call back from their Service Manager. I went to Ford but got rejected, as well as Nissan.

Right now I'd be completely satisfied with a job doing:

Data Entry
Creative Writing
Managing/Supervising at 26K/Yr post-tax
Web Design
Photo Manipulation

Aside from those, I'm really looking to do anything. I have money in savings and I can live off that but I'm trying my hardest not to. I don't want to become a bum and just leech off my debit (or credit) card. The way I see it, if you spend more then you make, then you're damn broke. And I am damn broke.

It's just a little big, not like Tucan Sam, I'd say its a normal size for a big nose.

we are always hiring at fedex. Like everyone, you would start at $12 an hour throwing boxes, but can be making $52,000 within a year if you dont mind a little hard work. We cant seem to find anyone who wants to actually work lately......

Where is a local FedEx warehouse? The two biggest intersections I am at is Coit and George Bush (where my apartment is) and Arapaho and 75 (my parents house, might have to move back home soon )

It's a normal big. I can post a picture if you'd like.

register for email notifications when a job is posted publically at fedex.com

when you get the email, follow the directions, go apply in person where it says.

Go there, take the courier written test, put on the app AVAILABLE ASAP AT ANY LOCATION in dallas, although you may not be. It will put your app to the very top when they start pulling. They will call you, go interview, you should be hired in a week or two.

no, go right ahead.

you can also deliver pizzas in the time being. My buddy got a job the same day, making $15 an hour on average, good quick cash until he found something else.

Do yourself a favor - get a degree in something specific, not generic. Then you'll have a true set of skills that an employer will find valuable and be willing to pay for. Examples:

Any kind of engineering
Finance/Accounting
Biology, Geology, even Environmental Science

Don't waste your time with:
Marketing
Any "business" degree
Any "philosphy" degree (sociology, etc.)

My $0.02

Although i find philosophy and sociology extremely intriguing, i would NEVER dedicate myself for 4 years to it.

As per my degree, I'm knocking the basics down right now, I'm looking at a Criminology degree, but have yet to decide.

By "business", I meant marketing, advertising, and the like. What a waste of time. Believe me, I know...wife got a degree in marketing. Has never helped her find a job.

That has to be the dumbest statement ever. I have a Marketing & Management degree and was hired because of the Marketing degree. I do quite well at the job (for 9 years now) that I got because of my "waste of time" degree. I know tons of people who are doing well that have business degrees. Jeez!
