Decal/Sticker Removal

What is the best procedure to safely remove large decals and stickers from both metal panels and poly bumpers?

I have a heat gun to help heat the stickers up but am afraid I will over heat the paint. Then what is the safest chemical to remove the left over adhesive. I have some 3M adhesive remover, is it safe to use on clearcoat paint? is there something better to use?

This is on an expensive car so I really need some expert advise

Just don't overheat the paint while taking off the stickers. Keep putting your hand on it to check the temp.
The 3M adhesive remover will work fine. Just use a soft towel or microfiber to wipe the adhesive off, or you'll leave scratches behind. Take your time and it should come off without any problems. Don't rush it.
