Will it buff out, or should I pass on this job?

What do you guys think? 20-30 year old paint.... Too far gone or can I do something with it?

Here's a good close up...

You might be able to put a little shine on it, but I don't think those cracks and scratches would buff too good. Still probably look better when you're done though.

if its a driver a little heavy compound might surprise you. As for the amount of work just buff and hand glaze one body panel and see what happens. It's alot cheaper than the alternative.

Wink

You're setting us up methinks.

I bet you already have an after pic and the paint looks better than it did on the showroom floor.

I've got a car in similar shape I need some work done on, what do I need to do to get a quote, will you need some pics? Also, whose '70 Judge is that next to the car you're working on?

Exclamation

I'm down whenever Stephen has time. I work from home so I'm available whenever! Stephen, we can probably just meet him at Stan's sometime, that way if you are working or not it wouldn't really matter. I'm gonna get the 4x4 Jimmy buffed-out, and maybe some other cars in the future. I wanna see how that '69 Camaro came-out, hurry-up and take pics!

I've run a buffer since before I could drive(22 years ago) and if those scratches came from paint being old and cracking I don't think you can do much more than put a shine that will look good in pictures but if you can somehow pull them out then my hats off to you.

See the thread titled "69 Camaro makeover", the pics are in there along with my process to complete the job. I wetsanded, then buffed. Came out pretty Decent. Better than anyone(including myself) ever thought it would come out.

I've been there buddy! I color sanded and buffed a 1934 Cadillac that went to Pebble Beach a few years back and it almost killed me. Tomorrow I'm going to buy a DA sander with a attachment for color sanding. I don't care what it cost, I'm going for it.

^^^^^^^^$175 for the whole thing with a box of 1500 paper. Got the foam piece that goes in between the paper and the sander. I hope this works!!
