Honestly, take that sucker to Maaco and get a quick and cheap fix...........it would look a lot better.

You could try wetsanding and polishing, but don't expect much.

Id rather let it look like it is w/ skin cancer than maaco it.

If you spend a little time doing some prep work a MAACO paint job will be just fine. I had an old truck and I spent a weekend taking parts off, sanding and straightening some metal and the paint job was still good when it got totalled in an accident several years later.

You can try using a PC on speed 6 with some Perfect It II rubbing compoud with an aggressive foam pad. It will take longer using a PC than a rotary, but if you don't know how to use one I'd stay away. Just some advice, could work. Never cleaned up a car with one stage paint. I've done a car with a good clear on it that looked worse than that and it came out flawless. Been looking for the pics on my computer but can't find them.

If it is truely single stage, and they put down enough product on it, and it's never been buffed before.......I think I can get it out. It may not come out 100% flawless, but it would look badass compared to what it looks like now. Definitely give it some gloss and depth. I would use a paint thickness gauge to determine how much product is on there, then do a small test spot to see what kind of results we could get. Then do the entire car. I think it will come out.

You can pay me plus gas money, or bring it to me. Tulsa is only 4 hours

On a side not, does anyone know what Tulsa spells backwards?

Yeah I think that is clear, not single stage. My brothers dakota is doing that where the fucking automated sprayers completely missed two strips across the roof.

Maybe not, but the clearcoat delaminating is the first thought that popped into my head when I saw it. If it is clear, feather the edges with sandpaper and re-clear it with some cheap ass clear...........will buy you quite a bit of time until you can get a quality paintjob.

Well, I had one about the same year model, and it had a clearcoat. That one looks like late eighties maybe very early nineties.

I've seen single stage paint do the same exact thing.

If you have any kind of paint cleaner or compound, take a cloth and dab a little into the cloth. Rub in one area on the car(somewhere where it's "normal" looking) for a minute or so and look at the cloth. It the paint color is bleeding into the cloth you have single stage paint. If it's single stage, I think it will come out.

That car is fu*ked. I manage a collision center. You are wasting your time trying to buff it. If it is a single stage (which it does nto appear to be) the buff job would take you hours to do and would only last for a few days.

Thats not entirely true. I have taken basket cases, and turned them around into respectable cars. Not perfect by any means, but respectable. I'm sure that alot of the cars I've turned around, you would have suggested a repaint, and tell the owner that they are wasting their time buffing it.
My cost is about 1/10th to 1/5th of your cost to repaint. And if I can't make it look better then the customer doesn't pay.

Just take a minute to look over the 69 Camaro that I've posted up in another thread. They guy that owns this car is the owner of a body shop, and he was prepared to strip it and give it a repaint. He asked me to play with it, and he was absolutely blown away with the results. It's all in the technique, and tools you use.

Here is a PRIME example of single stage paint that has been brought back to life. This was done by a very good friend of mine out in California. He owns a custom detailing shop, and does the exact same thing that I do with cars. He lives for the extreme makeovers

Single stage paint, only buffed with rotary buffer, not paint work...Before/after

That buff job turned out nice, but on single stage piant, it does not last long. Tht is all i was saying. I myself have done jobs like that and then a month later, it looks like crap again.
