Dfwstangs detail class...

Ok guys and gals,
My next day off(weekend) to do this class will be Sunday, March 25th. I'd like to start this around 10am, but with people going to church, this time may be a problem.

Let me go ahead and say that there is not going to be anything technical in this class. So some of you more experienced guys out there may be bored to tears. I'm going to keep this pretty simple for the first one, then move on to other things at a later date.

In this class I'm going to go over,
Products to use
Proper washing/drying
Evaluating your cars finish
Claying
Polishing
Applying/removing wax
Maintenance between waxing

I'm really not sure how long the class is going to take, this is the first one that I'm hosting, so I'm sure it's going to end up being a cluster Also, I'm a Meguiar's user, so most all of the products that I'm going to go over are going to be Meguiar's products.

I don't want to put my address out on a public message board, so post up in this thread if you would like to attend, and I will PM you with my address. Also, my neighborhood doesn't have a lot of parking, so if you can carpool out to my house, I would greatly appreciate it! The less cars in my grass, the better

Let me know what you guys think. If we need to adjust the start time, we can do that. I just didn't want to take up your entire day.

Edit: Let me also add that this class is open to everyone from Dfwstangs. If you have a problem with someone from the board that shows up, please keep it to yourself! What you do in your own free time and on this board is your business, what you do at my house is my business! And there will be no arguing, bickering, fighting, slapping, name calling, or any other kind of instigating of any kind! If you do, you will be asked to leave. End of story. My house will not be a boxing ring!

Girlfriend-yes, car-maybe. I'm looking for something that isn't going to require a ton of work. I'm going to have to finish the car after the class is over, so the easier the better

Hell I would, but with the o2 sensors out, it only gets about 20mpg. Should be fixed this week. Then again, Mandi isn't really comfortable driving the dodge.

Alright, I'll go over some engine detailing.

Everyone that posted up with intentions of coming should have a PM with the address by now. If you didn't get the PM, please let me know. I will send you another one. So far we have 12 people that have shown interest.

No need for that. Anybody that has any questions is free to come over anytime, and I'll go overthis stuff with them. None of this stuff is top secret. Plus, if someone breaks out a video camera I may just get stage fright I already have a fear of public speaking!

Nick,

It was a pleasure to meet you today and thanks for allowing us to pick your brain. I feel alot better about cleaning my car and I know the results will be a lot better.

Dan

Here are the notes I took today for anyone that wants them...

Everything should be done in the shade...

Keep all applicators, cloths, pads and mits in plastic bags to avoid contamination.

Grit guard goes in the bottom of the bucket to let dirt fall to the bottom of the bucket. It also has fins on the bottom to keep water and dirt from sloshing around.

Use 2 buckets, one with clean water, the other with soap. Clean the mit and then go into soap bucket. Always clean mit before it goes in the soap bucket.

Washing with dawn will remove wax. Super soap concentrate car wash will wash without removing wax. Mix as directed...

For winter washing - Quick and easy wash. One ounce per gallon, spray it on and wipe it off.

Dry with waffle weave, microfiber, fold four times for padding as you dry.

White clay - use low grit and the quick detail spray for lubricant. Spread it out over finger tips and gently rub wet surface.

Speed glaze 80 - mild abrasive to clean and remove swirls.

Place speed glaze around the outside of pad, small bead. Put dual action buffer on car before you start it and make passes, alternating up and down and side to side. Speed 5, buffer should be held firmly enough to rotate but not fast. About 10lbs of pressure.

Scratch x - for places you can't get buffer into. To do it right, do it three times. About 10lbs of pressure. Apply like wax.

Foam pads - tan is light, yellow is medium and red is coarse. Clean the foam pad before you use it. Place it in towel, press hard and turn on buffer.

Wax #26, dries clear... Wax on speed 3, wax off speed 5.

Super degreaser for engine cleaner. Engine should be mildly warm. Cover electrical (alternator), painted, billet parts with plastic bags or wrap before spraying cleaner. Let cleaner sit for 10-15 minutes. For stubborn grease, use a toilet bowl brush. Long bristels get into cracks and crevices.

Once degreased, rinse with water, very low pressure. Once rinsed, you can drive around block to dry.

Hyper dressing - for shine on engine. Spary on and let dry.

Vinyl and rubber #40 - For plastics inside car, rub in with applicator pad, let it soak in and then wipe off excess with cloth.

Magic eraser to remove scuff marks from kick panels and other plastic parts.
