sanding and primering

what grit of sand paper should i use to get some surface rust off, what type of primer should i buy that is able to paint over if there is any that is in a spray can. thanks

If it is light surface rust, 80-120 grit would be fine. Maybe you should buy a book on paint and body.

80-120 sounds a little corse for doing this to me, but i guess i'll try it.

Depends on how deep the surface rust is...... you could do it with 400, but it will take a while.
