May try an electric sander as well. If you get the gunk heated up it will scrape off easier. Then you could use some sort of liquid to get the residue left behind. I don't think simple green is a strong enough substance.\ May try acetone, Naptha, or something w/ harsh chemicals- basically strippers

I got most of it off, but there is some spots where its just like part of the car. I figured while the tranny and motor was out of the car i would clean it up. Some of it wont even scrape off. Thanks

I used castrol super clean when I cleaned mine up. Dont dilute it and it should get it off with a little scrubbing. Let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing

So what did you use? I cleaned mine up a few years ago and it was a bitch. That shit was stuck on pretty good- too good for just a little cleaner to remove it.

I used simple green a brush, and a scraper. I havnt got all of it off yet just the inner part of the car like where the tranny and driveshaft is but on the outter part like you said its on there to good for cleaner to get it off. What did you use?

Scraper, brush, and some kind of thinner-acetone or something just to clean the residue.

Why recommend Oven Cleaner when it'll rip the paint right off. DO NOT use oven cleaner anywhere near your car. Use any or all of the cleaners mentioned earlier but not Easy-Off oven cleaner. Geez...

I have always used easy-off oven cleaner on my engine compartments, works great. Never had a paint issue. If it taked off the paint there was an adhesion problem long before the easy-off.
