Question cardio- heart rate question

Ok guys I'm 18 and in good health, I was wondering about what my heart rate should be around when I am doing intense cardio, is there a certain barrier that is not good for you? (ie. a percentage close to your max heart rate, is that bad?)

Thanks in advance,

Jerred

depends on what u wanna do.

220 - age = MHR. Pretty simple formula. I've seen a couple of others, and it still gets pretty close to the same figure.

202 is your max heart rate.

If you want to just lose weight, go up to about 65% mhr.
If you want to just work on a better cardio system, then try 80%.

I'm looking for a better cardio system so I'm going for the higher %, but what I'm really wondering is...

based upon a MHR of 202 at 80% that is around 162 bpm, but would it do anything more if say I crank it up to 90%? is that beneficial, neutral or harmful to do?

Working at 90% of your max heart rate will simply work your cardio system into better condition.
