Tuna guru's, in here...

It had been mentioned in an earlier thread that eating alot of tuna can cause high amounts of mercury in the blood. I'm curious as to what would be considered dangerous. For instance, I was lazy today and neglected to cook up my usual chicken breasts, so before days end I'll have downed 4 or 5 cans of tuna. Is this unhealthy, or would it take alot of tuna over a longer time to becme detrimental to my health?

When I lived in the dorm about 3 years ago I had no way to cook chicken or steak. I would eat about 10 of the small cans a day.

New suggestion for you....

Tuna Steaks

Great when Blackened on the grill.

Salmon is the same.

I never buy tuna in cans anymore. Those pouches are just too dang good.

Aaron,

Methyl mercury levels in canned tuna arent that high to cause concern. In fact, merc levels in the most popularly consumed fish arent reason to worry. Now, it isnt recommended to consume more than 2.2lbs a week, but case studies havent shown any adverse reactions to those people that do eat more. Reason being is the government set those guidelines for consumption and those merc levels are still 10x lower than levels that would cause neuro/pyscho problems. So you're in the clear. Eat all the tuna ya want, Fish boy.

Now, if you were consuming shark or swordfish...we'd need to talk. Those fish's merc levels are 10x higher than whats in your canned tuna.
