Need some help getting off out of the gate...

I've wanted to start working out for awhile, but it didn't work while I was still living at home because my mom bought groceries and whatnot. Now that I'm not at home I wanna start getting better, but I have no idea where to start. Gym membership is kinda iffy right now because of $$, but I have limited access to the stuff at the HKC (gym on campus). I'm 6'0, 175 and am looking for more definition than anything. Right now, I look like a 5th grader with my shirt off.

Get a gym member ship, shop around. You got to focus, you can't focus with half assed equipment. Go to the Y if you have to.

In the mean time, a good regimen of situps, pushups, dips, bodyweight squats, etc. is a decent way to gain a little tone. That's actually how I got started into the whole fitness game. Back in highschool I'd come home and whatever my chubby little body would handle. You won't put on much weight, but it's a good way to get yourself motivated, and to get your body into the swing of things.

Start by reading the book, "Body For Life"

That's what got me going.

Find a buddy, challenge each other. One of the reasons I've fallen off so much this past year is a lack of a challenge. Lately I've been talking shit with a dude I work with, and we're starting to work out together. We've got similar body types and goals, so we're going to compete with each other. Always been the best motivation for me.

Competition is the best motovation I know of and it's almost scientifically proven. It's got to do with psychology that I wont get into but you push yourself so much harder by challenging people it's not even funny.

Great stuff, now I just wish I could find a person down here in Austin that has about the same schedule so we can work out together

Yea, look at the YMCA in Coppell if it's not too big of a drive. That is the most kickass YMCA I've ever seen and they are cheaper than most gyms.
