Stretching question.

Does it help much to stretch before and after working out sessions. Really just any kind of physical exertion.

Yes or no and why.

Thank you,

Ironically it's a catch 22. Some say not to workout until you are stretched, and others suggest not to stretch until the muscle is warm. I think that mostly applies to deep stretching though, as I don't think a light pull before you start is a bad thing. I usually do a light warm-up of 18-20 reps on most exercises to start anyway, so I'll wait until after that first warm-up set to do my first stretching. As the workout progresses I get a little more intense with the stretching as my body has had ample stimulus to get the blood flowing.

I would say about the same. Warm-up a little and then stretch. You can stretch afterwards if you like. When you stretch after working out you can increase your flexibility and it helps you cool down your muscles.
