Bulk or Cut

I have come to the conclusion that I dont know what I want first. I am 18 - 6'0 - 160 - and just lost about 20lbs... I dont have that stand out 8pack that I want, but I do see all 8 of them. I cant decide if it's time to start bulking up muscle and try to gain 10-20lbs of muscle, or if I want to cut down first. Any opinions on which is the easier method? cut then buff or buff hten cut? Also anyone ever used bowflex or a similar resistance training home gym system? I have been using freeweights for all my exercises and while I havent hurt myself yet, I see it as a possibility when I try and bulk up. Are they worth the price? I always see them for 40/mo but for how many months and whats the final price on those things? Thanks

Austin

My suggestion would be to use the colder winter months to slow down a little and put on some mass. This isn't a license to eat crap mind you, but up your clean calories with an emphasis on protien, don't worry about cardio, and keep your workouts heavy and intense. If you eat right you'll put on mostly lean mass so that when the warmer months come, it will be that much less work to lean out. As for a time-table, I'd suggest bulking now through February or so, depending on how much bodyfat you manage to accumulate over the bulking phase. If you do it right, you shouldn't need but a month of a low carb, high rep, daily cardio routine to get into tip top condition. If that's the case, bulk 'til about April and use may to lean out for bikini season. If you like to eat, give yourself a few more months to diet.

I want to stress though, that "bulking" does not mean going on a see-food diet, unless you already have a high metabolism. The cleaner you stay in the "off season" will equate to better/quicker gains and less work when diet time comes around.
