Question Bumping up cardio?

I'm playing with the idea up upping my cardio to twice a day. I'm still trying to gain about 10 more pounds (about 192 now), and I still have some fat I need to trim off. Would this help me in my goals at all, or actually hurt them?

I don't do a lot as it is, just run about a mile and a half to get sweaty and warmed up for the weights.

Losing fat and gaining lean mass are very difficult to do at the same time. If you are in a hurry to get lean then go ahead and up the cardio, but realize that your strength will suffer a bit.

Just make sure you are doing the correct type of cardiovascular work-out. Distance runs usually means that you are breathing aerobically and increasing your endurance level. Where as sprints should put you into anaerobic breathing and increase strength. You might want to try running a 800 or so to warm-up and then run some sprints.

you should try and do your wieghts first and then do your cardio after. Once you burn all the energy that your muscles release, your body then starts to burn fat as energy

I could try it, but I thought it was best to run first to get your heart rate up.

It's best to do a warm-up to get oyur heart rate elevated a ;little before a strenuous anaerobic workout, but not an all out cardio session. Do 5-10 minutes at a moderate pace for a warm-up. Then like Xcessive said, you want to do weight training while your muscles are full of glycogen, and then do cardio aftewards once the glycogen has been used, so that your body will get into burning your fat stores faster.
