Pop in the back of my head..and a rush of pain...

Alright...I was lifting the other day...Not hard..just my sets.
I was on my third set on bench. 170 on the bar and i was on 5 I think when I felt something pop in the back of my head. I put up the weight but felt like I was going to die.
I laid there..and wasnt' fully able to open my eyes.
It felt like my heart was right next to my brain pumping, beating the hell out of it. after a couple of minutes of laying there I was able to open my eyes without it hurting really bad.
I went home..and laid down for a while.
Today it is not near as bad...But I cant still feel it. My whole face burned for a while...And it seemed like a constant headache.

Anyone know what happened?
What caused it?
If there is a way to have this not happen again..Then I would like to know.
Thanks
T

Sounds like you may have pulled the muscles in the back of your neck. Happened to me playing HS football one game. The aftermath of your injury sounds alot like mine.

If it doesn't get better in a few days, go see a doctor.

Sometimes when someone flat benches, they will force their head into the bench during maximum effort. Forcing your head into the bench will place undue strain on the neck muscles.

My message board opinion is that this is what happened to you. But, like I wrote, if it doesn't get better, go see a doc.

In the meantime, take some Tylenol or Aleve 3-4 times a day for a few days. As far as bench technique, be concious of forcing your head into the bench during effort.

Thats the thing

See thats the thing.
I am all about technique: to get the best usagage of each muscle I am trying to work.
I put my feet at the end of the bench..So I dont flex my back.
I was straining pretty hard...

My neck feels fine..
My head doesn't though.

Then I'd go see a doctor. You could have popped a blood vessel.

does it feel any different stabilizing your head? I know this kid that ripped one of his neck muscles that stabilize the back of your head, hurt it playing football. He said his neck didn't hurt but you could tell that he was straining to keep his head up. Just wondering but I'd still go see a doc, quick.

Going to the doc tomorrow

Going in @ 9 in the morning

Stabilizing my head doesnt do any good...ice..Tylenol..Nothing helps.
When I run..it kicks my ass.
I can feel my heart beat sending needles through my head.

It almost seems as if it is right behind my face..cause it burns...
Really hard to describe.
I dont know..
I'll see what he says.
Thanks
I'll let yall know what he says

Well hmmm

The doc doesn't know what happened...How wierd.
I dont know if this has anything to do with it....But I am beginning to get black eyes...I have been getting plenty of sleep.
He set up a date for me to go to springfield to have it checked out.

damn.

Good luck, man. It's not uncommon for your GP to "not know". These guys specialize in being general. When something out of the ordinary happens, they are clueless. At least he was smart enough to send you on to a specialist for further tests and not say, "Well, here is some codiene, give it a couple of days, you will be fine."

Looking on the bright side (if there is one!), its been a couple of days and you are still coherent and posting.

With the black eyes thing, it does sound like you poped some blood vessels in your head and the blood is pooling around the soft tissue around your eyes.

Popped blood vessels...

They said I have busted a few blood vessels. I am ok...Nothing to really worry about and the pain will last for only a few more days.
They dont know if they black eyes will stay or not.
Kinda p!sses me off that even a specialist doesn't know.
haha..He perscribed me "tylenol"...If ever...I take advil.
But...I hardly ever ever do.
I just hope this crap goes away.
He also told me to take vitamins??????
I take vitamins!
