Mixing carbs

Did a search and didn't see this topic come up.

I've been doing some searching to find documentation on this theory behind mixing carbohydrates and haven't found any yet, so if anyone can point me in the right direction, please do.

I spoke with a guy I ran into at the store about a month ago who used to compete in body building competitions back in the late 90's early 2000's and he mentioned that he mixed his carbs with his meals i.e. sweet potato, brown rice, and red potato's (and/or some other white potato). Of course this would be combined with a protein source like Tilapia or egg whites. Apparently this type of combination at the right portion size (i.e. 1/4 portion of each) had a better metabolic effect on the body's ability to burn fat and build muscle since they are of different compositions i.e. short, medium, and long chain carbs.

I'm paraphrasing this, so I may be missing something, but has anybody else heard of this school of thought? According to the guy I talked with, some of the big names out there like Dorian Yates and a few others subscribed to this method.

You're getting way ahead of yourself. Are you going to be stepping on stage any time soon? Just worry about eating good foods and being consistent in the gym.

I've done two competitions so far and have a calendar shoot coming up at the end of the month. Although I don't plan on competing again soon, if this is true, then it seems like a good idea to experiment with to see how the body reacts.

Thats similar to how I eat now. Got to have a good clean fat/carb/protein at most every meal and snack. I cleaned up my diet really well and found out I have a gluten allergy (as well as others that give me issues) so my carbs are potatoes/rice/and fruits and veggies.

What does not being a competitive bodybuilder have to do with this? It is nothing more than clean living and being healthy. I have changed my eating habits immensely and it shocked the shit out of me how it changed the way I felt. I wont say i never sneak some crap food in but I know already how bad I am going to fell later witch I tend to shy away from more and more.

Will do!

I won the contest to! The contest was based on whoever had the biggest before an after difference in a 100 days (or something along that time frame). I found out this morning right before the shoot and got two big checks for $1000 total The proceeds for this competition go to a foundation to help fight against child obesity. Our gym competed against other gyms as well.
