what kind of knee brace?

during my run saturday my right knee had a really sharp pain about 2miles in, felt like someone driving a small nail into my patella. I can walk on it but sometimes feels like a small pebble is under my kneecap (sort of like a rock in your shoe) type feeling. should I wrap it before I run again or use one of those "strap" type brace? I just turned 37 so I guess this was bound to show up soon, my knee has always made a crunching sound walking up steps but never really hurt.

By the sound of it, I don't know how much a brace is going to help you. I wouldn't spend any real money on a high end brace until you have it checked out. Sounds closer to a bone spur or wearing of the cartilage. Does the pain hurt through the entire movement of the knee or just at lock out?

somewhere at midway during ROM and a bit at hyperextension. bout to change jobs so not sure if I can get in to see ortho within next week before insurance coverage stops, theres no swelling, i ran abit on it this evening with no pain but kind of feel it but not real bad. think i have some celebrex left over will use that for now. I think i will try the elations drink since it takes so long for the glucosamine to get into the joint

After dealing with other pains, the shooting pain through the kneecap (and deep pain when not weight bearing) was the last straw for me... 2 weeks later, confirmed torn meniscus.

dull pain = happens sometimes
sharp pain = don't run, take a break

Give us some more info. Running history? Shoes? Anything different recently (basketball game, played with the kids more on the weekend, whatever)? Pronation issues? Heel striker? Overweight?

I've had 5 knee surgeries, so I am familiar with some knee pain.
