Anyone ever used Rippetoe's starting strength program?

I finished as much of P90X as I wanted to (about 80 days or so) and now I've started a program called Starting Strength that was developed by Mark Rippetoe. Has anyone else used this program before? any advice?

I assume you're fairly new to the whole workout thing. My advice is, stick to the plan. Don't modify it for a good while until you feel you are past the stages of being new at lifting. Rippetoe is a very smart dude.

I've seen it talked about, but never actually looked at it.

I am definitely quite new to heavy lifting. I lifted weights in the past but never saw much of a gain since I really didn't know what I was doing. Me and a friend of mine began this program on Monday, and today will be our second workout. I'm following the program exactly as described in the book, and I'm also doing P90X's ab workout every day that I lift as well as one set of pull-ups to failure. On my off days I'm going to do a little running. I already know that my biggest problem will be my diet. I have a hard time eating as many calories as I will need to really put on any weight, but I'm making an effort at it.

Rippetoe is pretty much a jerk, but he knows powerlifting.
