We're not in Kansas any more Toto...

I tend to be absent-minded a bit, especially when it comes to the minor details of daily life, especially when doing something outside my normal daily routine, such as setting things down somewhere other than it's usual storage place.

It's not been a serious issue for me up to this point, as I'll usually rember said items a few minutes later, and go retrieve them from wherever. I dunno if it's southern Cali in general, or this particular gym, but going back to get my stuff is no longer an option.

Thus far I've been relieved of 2 pairs of shorts, and 2 sets of straps. one pair of shorts I had JUST taken off after having sat in the sauna, sat them on the bench to go weigh and dry hair, and they were gone after literally 2 minutes of unattention. I was dumbfounded.

Most recently I had set my straps down at the base of the super press, as I didn't need them for that particular exercise, and forgot to pick them up when I moved to cables. After 3 sets of 6 reps and the rest in between I realized what I'd done and went to get the straps, and they were gone...

Here's the kicker. After checking the front desk to see if they were turned in (they weren't) I irately went back to the cables to simmer, when I notice a guy at the water fountain fumbling with his sweatsuit jacket, and out falls a pair of straps. It's the gym, people bringf their straps, but soon after they fell to the grown, this little fucker makes a swift and nervous motion to swoop them up and wrap them in his jacket agan. My simmer then became a full on pressure cooker whistle. I walked over to him and sternly asked for my straps back, which he, again super nervously, handed them over and fumbled out that he was intending to take them up front. Nothin like adding a ball-faced lie as the cherry on top of a theft sunday.

I guess it's no big deal when the dust settles, it's just what was taken, and the manner in which the stuff was lifted has left me flabbergasted. I used to be trusting in the general good of man-kind, but that's been slowly eaten away here lately. /rant

That sucks man.

Out in Rockwall people are very good with the honor code.

Every piece of abandoned equip i find i ether replace where it came from or turn it in up front.

Why would someone want your old sweaty straps?!?

Or freshly sweaty gym shorts... The guy had the gall to come up to me a few minutes later to try to apologize again, and to reiterate that he was going to take them up front, and that he's a Christian with straps at home, yadda yadda...

I'm one to usually give the benefit of the doubt, but this guy reeked of guilt from the moment I approached him. It was insulting for him to think that I was dumb enough to be convinced otherwise.

An ass-whoopin' had crossed my mind, but it'd be my luck that the weasel would press charges for assault if I so much as pushed him. The satisfaction it would bring wasn't worth potential jail time. The rest of my workout was quite invigorated though, and it gave me an excuse to chat up one of the cute little trainers that works there.

At least the guy came back up the apologize. He felt guilty for being a criminal. Probably taught him something. It's better than him running back up to you and slapping his sweaty balls against your face.
