long arms vs short arms on the bench

is it easier for a short armed person to bench than someone like myself whom resembles a knuckle dragging gorilla? or is my workout partner just trying to not make me feel like a woman? thanks.

god bless.

Rocket science will tell you short arms = less ROM = easier

You would be better suited for Deadlift

You also have to consider the length of your upper arms in comparison to your forearms. Generally longer arms suck. Why do you think White Lightning can bench 500 lbs? It is because he has T rex arms and moves the bar about 3".

funny thing Al. I had this conversation with Dave in the past and we measured arm length one night. His arms are almost as long as mine (arm pit to finger tip), but the distance from his chest to finger tips was greatly reduced.

Liar! I've seen it with my own two eyes, you move the bar a grand total of 6" in you complete ROM. Adn you show me a 12 year old girl who can bench 135 10x and I'll show you a 12 year old girl that can bench more than me.

I would think it's only logical that short people have an advantage in almost all lifting motions. Especially if you're a barrell-chested midget. How tall are professional power-lifters?

Bench and squat, yes, being tall with long arms can be a positive when deadlifting, though. You have better leverage.

How so? Deadlift is practically the same thing as a squat except you're holding the bar instead of resting it on your shoulders.

I haven't seen too many people that can play with 405 like that. That's why I always carry a gun. I'm not going to get into an argument with you, I'd just shoot your ass!

I think I remember reading a story a few years back about a pro BB that got shot in the chest, and the round got lodged in his pec before doing life-threatening damage. I suppose that's why most all pistols have multiple rounds.

Go for the gut shot. Not only is there no bone to go through, the other guy will probably have to have a colostomy bag for the rest of his life!

My left arm is two inches than my right. I adjust my bench grip so they both reach extended length at the same time, but my longer arm has always been weaker and tires first.

LOL my 'shorter arms' mean I have to bend over further and/or take my legs deeper to do my dead lifts. Shorter isn't always good, my add is really close to the ground because I prefer to have a more leg-oriented 'pop' to start the lift. I take off with my legs and come up with my upper body after the weight is off the ground and I feel my ass is up past parallel. I try to finalize the last foot of the upwards lift with my legs and back together.

Unlike a benchpress, there's a LOT more of your body parts needed in a dead lift.

The thing about dead lifting is that there are quite a few ways to do it... I prefer my feet just past the width of my hips, hands outside of my legs on the bar.. Some guys 'sumo' style it, feet super wide and grab the bar between the legs. There's a bunch of ways to change the leverage, depending on what you're comfortable with.

Wink

video is cool... me being 6'3 long everything...lol If I can get back to 275 at 10 reps on incline cuz i can care less about bench... I'll be happy. also get my body weight back to 225-230 Ill be happy too. i'm at 215 now

looks cool with that huge stack on the bar, ill give ya credit but.... pssht im 30 and can care less about being the strongest guy on the football team anymore like when I was 18-23. Just heavy weight more pressure on joints and as we get older we dont hold up as when we were all 18.

Oh and I thank god for making me 6'3 with long arms vs, 5 whatever with shorties...

I have a 75" reach and besides having to adjust bench presses regularly I've never noticed much of an advantage, but I've always heard it to be true.

looks cool with that huge stack on the bar, ill give ya credit but.... pssht im 30 and can care less about being the strongest guy on the football team anymore like when I was 18-23. Just heavy weight more pressure on joints and as we get older we dont hold up as when we were all 18.

Oh and I thank god for making me 6'3 with long arms vs, 5 whatever with shorties...
Seriously, I think that I started a thread about would you trade your height for higher lift numbers? I'm 6' 1" which isn't insanely tall, but being over that 6' mark is nice.

Damn your a big guy at 6.3. But I bet 215 looks good on your frame.

Im 6.2 & I I think my arms are 73inchs in span from fingertip to fingertip & I know my elbows hurt from doing curls. I bench right at 265 on a normal bench. I warm up at 135 or two 45lb plates & work my way up to two 45lbs plates on each side & a 25lb plate with the other two 45lbs pounds plate,

Just curious. What should I be squating ? I weight right at 215 to 220lbs

I weigh 225lbs and work out with 315-355lbs. No my ass does not touch the ground, but I go far enough down not to risk injury and to get a good clean rep in. I haven't maxed out in probably over a year so this is just a guess, but probably high 300's or low low 400's.

I love seeing people in the gym doing what I call sissy squats(not even breaking parallel)!
It sure does give me something to look and laugh at.
Call me an asshole if you will, but I damn sure let them know that I'm laughing at them too!
I can understand if its injury related, but 99.9% of the time, it’s just the pussyidus in them showing!

BTW: I'm about 6/3-6/4 and I pretty much go ass to ankles and only workout with 335lbs x 10 reps x 12 sets whenever I do legs on Sundays.
Doing this with no spotter sucks!!!
You either get it up or you pay dire consequences!

Or perhaps they have an old injury that limits them from going to parallel. You sure are judgemental, at least they are in there, and aren't skipping legs like the guys that just work their beach muscles. Rather than laughing, why not offer your "expertise"?

I kinda figured you would get somewhat riled up by my comments, so don’t get your panties in a wad dude.
Read what I previously wrote a little bit closer next time, as you fall in the .1% that I left on the table.

When it comes to the human anatomy…Hell yea, I am judgmental(I am also judgmental on spelling too btw)!
I find flaws in myself, so why the hell wouldn’t I find flaws in others?
It’s just something that I do and have always done.
I always notice the attributes of one human anatomy and then notate the negatives, then sometimes I might bring about the question… natural or drug induced?
I learned the offering advice where it's not wanted lesson a long time ago bro.
I do not mind helping people out at all.
I only offer to those that are willing to listen and implement what I teach them.
It's just that there is a right and wrong way to do things and I don't halfass anything that I do in life!

P.S. – I never said I was an "expert" by any means, so take that crap elsewhere.
