Wellness program says that my bmi is 31%.Where can can I have it professionaly Chkd?

I weighed in at work for our wellness program and they told me that I need to loose 30lbs and 3inches off my waist because I'm obiese. A year and a half ago my bmi was @ 18%(using fat calipers). All they did was take my age, height, and weight and calculated the numbers. I dissagreed with them about there process for finding bmi but they didn't want to listen. I'm not in great shape but I'm not fat either(I'm 6,4 251lbs). I am planning on working out but I'm not trying to get down to 223 lbs like they said. Anyway,is there a place I can go to get an acurrate bmi done?

BMI says im obiese as well. It will say a bodybuilder with 4% bodyfat ready for the stage is obiese too. Go by body fat not BMI.

Obese Stephen? Lmao, those things are a joke. Unless, of course, you've started carrying around a lot more weight since I saw you last. I actually got down to what the BMI said I should weigh a few years ago and I looked sick. Seriously, friends were telling me I looked like an aids patient at that weight.

What he said.

I was told I was overweight once as well (according to the height/weight/age thing).

They did the calipers check and it came out to 8%.

Stephen, call around to some of these clinic places (carenow, family health care associates, etc.) and see if the have a more accurate way.

Also, check out this site...

BMI is a crock of shit. The Air Force uses BMI as part of our annual fitness test as well. It's a joke.

Our wellness program says I should weigh between 165 and 181. No thanks.

It also said I was over 25% bodyfat and should lose over 50 lbs at 225 lbs.

Im wondering what kind of facts i can bring them so that I wont get told that i didnt loose enough weight. I get $750 at the end of the year if I do what they say and loose 30lbs. But if I can prove that Im not obese I can get that money. Im just wondering If I can do anything accurate to get my body fat % so I can give them the paper work.

I think you're confusing body fat percentage with BMI. The BMI scale uses only height and weight for its value, it does not factor in lean tissue mass and fatty tissue mass. 31 is not a bad BMI, but it has nothing to do with your body fat percentage which is probably the 18%, it just sounds like you had two different tests done.

FYI you can calculate your own BMI with a simple formula, just take your weight in lbs and multiply by 703, then divide that number by your height in inches squared.
