P90x?

Thoughts or opinions, Is it another gimmick, or does it really work if the course is followed correctly?

Thanks

People on here seem to be having good results. I've heard it's really easy to plateau if you don't force yourself to up the weight/intensity of your workouts. I guess that's true with any workout program though. I bought the DVD's a while back, but didn't have the discipline to work out at home so I sold them and got a gym membership. I can attest that the plyometrics workout is freaking intense.

I'm starting up again on Jan 1, but maybe sooner. The Pumpin' Iron forum here should have a 2010 P90X challenge of some sorts.

People and their new years resolutions. Seriously...it's just another excuse to put excercising off. My advice to anybody is that if you're ever sitting around your house and you start thinking "I should start excercising," you immediately get off your ass, go to a gym and get at least a trial membership. Don't say "I'm gonna start Monday, or next month, or Jan 1."

Well I came down to Dallas for the holidays and don't have gym access so I borrowed P90x from someone just to try it out.

I am somewhat underwhelmed. I'm just finding a lot of these workouts kinda easy. Plyometrics was not near as killer as I thought it would be. I did enjoy the arm/shoulder workout and the yoga x though. It's a good starter for people who want to get into high intensity training, but after doing crossfit for a couple years...it just doesn't compare.

My wife bought me the system for X-Mas. So I turned around and bought her the Wii Fit, lol.

I am not sure if I will be doing the system (90 day routine and all) but I will be doing some of the workouts. I work 12-14 hour days and have a very small living area (picture 20' shipping container). Our gym has weights and all but no where for most of the workout routines on the DVDs. I would like to up load this stuff to the IPod to take in there with me though.

<----- Totally out of shape, BP too high and on meds, Triglicerides (sp?) and cholesteral suck, too heavy etc. Need to fix some things.

I did it thursday and friday. I am going to start again monday. Surpassingly I was not sore the next day. I did eat alot of protein that night. I hit my goal of loosing 4 lbs this week, and beat it by 5lbs. So in total I lost 9 lbs this week.

Good for you. My bands should be here in a week. Damn post office and overseas addresses.

I have been hitting the diet and cutting the callories though. I even went thru the warm ups and stretches just to feel them out.

I have viewed each of the DVDs just to know what I am getting myself into and researched their websites, youtube, etc.

I even built some spreadsheets with the workouts and times. Working out in my living space is going to be a no-go. There is just no room and the low ceiling would make plyometrics hazardous. The gym here on base does not have a whole lot of room for setting up a DVD player that would work. Cheat sheets will have to suffice. I figure review the workout first then go to the gym and hit it.

For dieting and hit up fitday.com you can log your food and determine you callories, fat/protein/carbs ratio etc.

I found a spreadsheet online ( a book really) where you enter in some basic info about you and then you can record everything you do. it appears to have been created by someone affiliated with P90X or someone VERY into it
.. I'll see if I can get it to you when i get home.. I think it would be VERY useful

Good for you man. Have you registered on beachbody forums yet? I am still waiting for a few things to show up here and then I am starting Day 1. That is the tough part about being all the way over here, I can not get anything quick fast and in a hurry.

I have already studied all the dvds and tried most of the weight/band exercises to see if I can do them or not. So far so good. I can not wait to start.

Have you been hitting the diet the way they want you to? 50%Protein 30%Carbs 20%Fat

You will love it, and I bet you are in a lot better shape then me lol. As for my diet, I have been doing the diet and doing it right. I find it really easy to eat healthy. I have to eat 3000 calories a day, which going by there nutrition guide for calories, I have to eat a ton of food. That is the only thing I am having problems with. I am getting better about eating more and more. I am just going to have to keep at it. I have lost 3 more lbs this week. I am hoping to loose at least 1 more this week.

Good for you man. What do you use to track your calories? Does most of what you eat come from a package with a nutrition guide on it to let you know what exactly you are taking in?

I am supposed to consume 2400 but can only get in around 1600. That may change once I start day one and my body tells me I need more. I have been working my diet though to strictly stick to the 50%/30%/20% ratio I figure that has to be the key along with the workout.

I have been lucky to find prolabs whey protien here at the base to help with the protein intake with little to no carbs, no sugar and no fat. It does not taste that bad either.

They also have precooked packets of BumbleBee 4oz albacore, chicken etc. I bought all they had to stock up. They make great snacks and are straight protien with 0-4g of carbs and 1-1.5g of fat. The albacore tastes good and has 34g of protein.

I am really going to need to up my protein intake. I am using fitday.com. Prolabs is good stuff. I use to use there stuff back when I was in the gym everyday. I have trouble keeping stuff fresh, because I work out side and I have no access to a refrigerator. Im stuck eating a turkey sandwhich during the day.

Your welcome but don't thank me too much I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the paycheck every month. Civilian contractor in his fourth year. They pay me for the harsh living conditions and hazards.

Dinner sucked, 4oz sliced ham, 3/4 cup green beans, 3/4 cup rice pilaf and milk. My total calories for the day still only reached 1660. But I think I have it down enough to start day 1 and take the guess work out of the nutrition. That is until the second phase starts. More carbs should be easier anyways though.

I only hit 2425 yesterday, And that was with me eating nearly all day. I need to add more protein though. My carb intake is too close to my Protein intake. I have got to start eating more, if I am going to hit my goal. I can only image how hard it is for you lol.

That is how I am trying to get mine. I never really tried to figure it out before, I just tuna and eggs almost every meal, and I didn't eat in between meals. Before P90X came out, I did the Abs diet, which taught me what to eat and not eat, and when to eat. Now that I am very serious about working out, no matter how tired I am. I am actually taking the time figure the Protein-Carb-Fat levels per day.

Another thing I need to cut out the turkey bacon, and just do a protein shake. I have some protein powder that has 52g protein with one scoop.

I work the numbers with what I know the chowhall will be serving so I can just go in and get what I need, eat it and go. I have had to build a few of my portions based off the nutrition labels but since I eat the same thing for the most part every day now it only takes 2 minutes or less to input my meal to bring up the %s and numbers.
