Metroflex Plano: anyone lift there?

I was just curious to see if anyone lifts out that way. I just 86'ed my 24 hour fatness membership so I'd actually go lift. So far, metroflex is my kinda place. Hot and sweaty with loud aggressive music and equipment for people who lift. One gym only needs so many hip abductor machines. I'm pretty sure 24 hour fitness is less than a year away from their only dumbells being pastel 5-50lb sets.

I work out most evenings.

Yeah, 'cause there's no way somebody would be able to get decent abs and a 400lb bench with the crappy set up at "24-hour fatness" you used to lift at.

No, it's the fact that all of the new ones don't have a lot of the equipment that I like to use. You know, silly things like deadlift bumper plates and a padded floor, or shoulder press racks, dumbells over 100lbs, etc.

Don't get your pussy hurt because I can't stand to listen to the worst music ever played on the radio and the pastel colors anymore. Combine that with all of the other stuff and it just wasn't helping my motivation to hate every second in the gym.

That's funny, that shit is my motivation. Add in 40 oogling fags and you have my gym. It's fun as hell to piss off everyone banging a loaded bar on the floor on deadlift day.

I can't stand listening to pop bullshit and 15 year old techno during my workout and I hate putting headphones in and out and carrying an Ipod. I'd rather the gym just have some good shit playing and not worry about it.

Some people like a gym to feel like home. I simply prefer a gym that feels like a gym. No TV, no bullshit, just weights and other like minded people. Oh, and a couple of tractor tires (big plus for me) and hopefully some kettle bells, but that might be some wishful thinking.

I'm there 3 nights per week.

Any gym that has chalk and makes you sign the bathroom door if you puke is OK in my book.

some people can make any gym a gym...haha. Personally, I love 24hr and actively use four different gyms because they offer such a variety between them. The 24 in arlington tends to play good music, and is great for shoulder and ab days. The 24 in plano also has decent ab equipment and enough for a good chest workout.

There's going to be a Metroflex opening up in Houston soon My buddy [and coworker] got the rights to franchise a Houston location. I'm helping him out on the necessary equipment to attract the MMA crowd i.e. cage, bags, pads, grappling mats, tires, kettlebells etc. etc. I'm sort of his "adviser" on certain aspects of it. As for the music, no techno or pop stuff will be allowed. This will be the most hardcore gym Houston has ever seen, mark my words.

Shit, I bet I was the weakest mofo when i started at Metroflex back in January. I hadn't touched a weight in 10 years and couldnt even bench 100 lbs on my first day. I had been in the Arlington Metroflex back around 1990-1991 and I felt totally intimated in that place. I was hoping it wouldnt be the exact same atmosphere but the peeps at Metroflex in Plano were/are pretty cool. All business there!

I will give you that 24 hours music sucks. If my ipod dies during my workout I pretty much call it a day. However, I'm sure the metroflex place plays equally gay music.

Gold's Gym in Plano is majorly pussified to the tune of Brittany Spears on the speakers and a bunch of old people steppin to the oldies. I switched to 24hr in Frisco and Its all good now.

i forgot my headphones one day and my workout was about 15 minutes long, can't stand the music at 24 hour. I've also been to some pretty crappy 24 hour's. However I ones I go to on a regular basis are well equipped and I can't complain about anything but the music.

You're also 145lbs. I have a feeling that others would feel that your gym was "light" in their equipment.

Include the fact that he just can't get a good workout without his ipod, and just throw his opinion out the window.

My local LA changed to 'Esporta', which, as far as I can tell is just a step towards night club, under the guise of making it a 'high-class' fitness center, and I'm ready to move on. Getting in trouble for deadlifting is fun, but hearing the whines about bending bars gets old.

I work out at 24hr and I feel that the equipment can be put to good use.
If you are a beast, just take a pin from another machine and strap a 45lb plate or two to the side and bust out 10-20 reps.

I also grew up in a hardcore steroid gym that had dumbbells up to 200's and it wasn't the type of atmosphere that I enjoyed the most.
I had to get out and very glad that I did.

You also work out at home. You are not everyone, and I don't have 600lb tractor tires, semi tires to do sledgehammer work, etc at home.

so you're saying I should listen to britney spears or maroon five while lifting weights? seems counterproductive to me. Do they play maroon five at your 'hardcore' gym? Cause somehow I think it would cease to be 'hardcore' at that point. I've got to listen to some metal when lifting weights, not some pop crap.

How about when I get tired of being surrounded by people who do 6" ROM incline presses, or who sit there and talk on their cell phone more than half of the time they're there. Or when I get tired of shitty music played all day, every day. Or when I get tired of having to walk to the other side of the gym to find a fucking 10lb or 25lb plate?

All of these things are the things that piss me off. The fact that they openly admit to being a "Fitness Center" and not a gym, and don't care to support the people who lift day in and day out are huge problems for me.

But I did just get a free 90 day membership to 24 hour, so I'll continue going there until I can't stand it any longer.

Dude, I'm telling you, go to the Coit and Campbell 24 hour, none of that shit happens there. Dumbbells up to 150 lbs., lots of power racks benches and other shit.

The music is shitty sometimes though but I can't hear it because i am lifting so heavy that my ears bleed.

I've lifted there, and you're right. I forgot about that one. As a whole I'm just beyond finished with 24 hour fitness. They don't care one bit about their customers, so I choose not to support them any more than necessary.
In the past week, I've already been lied to when I was talking to some dipshit at the Parker and Alma location about a membership. Just one more example of a shitty gym with shitty practices.
