New Personal Best!

I was in the weight room today and got 315 up 8 times on bench pretty easily, lets just say I haven't lifted that much since my football playing days. It feels great to be back in GOOD shape. I still have a goal of dunking a basketball 2 handed but for now the 315 for an easy 8 felt great.

5'11''---207lbs -----12% ish body fat.

I will try again on friday and see if the result is as good, and get a video up.

Very Impressive...I was going to post about my new 1RM best and then hitting 225 x 5 at the end of the workout for the first time ever...but yeah you just made me feel like a bitch.

Congrats.

How old are you? I think we're about the same age, and have similar goals.

I know you're being facetious to a degree, but never feel bad about a personal achievement. Everyone starts somewhere. If it makes you feel better, I probably couldn't push 225 more than 1-2 times right now.

I know I'm stronger then I was in January but I still feel weak for my size.

6 ft 240 lbs.

But I did start around January after never really lifting with a 1 RM of 185.

Goal was to push 275 at least by Jan 1 2010 and rep 225 x 10....I can still maybe get there.

Congrats to the OP and Nate.
Nate, it must have been the bench that I sold you!
A few years back my goal was to rep 365 on flat bench 12 times,
then I hit that goal and completely stopped flat benching and switched back to dumb bells.
I just feel flat bar bench is only for bragging rights to you and your buddies, but that's another subject in itself.
Either way, congrats on new personal bests, sure does make you feel good!

Yeah we just don't have the DB's available at the shop we are at right now, I keep saying we need to move to that though.

And actually that was on our old bench I put it up, I do use that Yukon machine alot...LOVE seated rows and we did fix the butter fly portion as well.

Good deal.
If you want, they sell a cable crossover attachment for the machine as seen below.
That machine can do everything one would ever want...

I am 25 years old and yes the flat bench is alot about bragging, but aren't all max lifts? WE dont have anything higher than 100lb dbs so I try to do a few sets of burn outs on there as well.

You should never feel bad about your lifts, you do have to start somewhere and not too many years ago after I had double hernia I couldn't lift 225 for 1 rep. It took alot of hard work to get it all back. I think the maxes help me out in motivating to get to the gym. Thanks for all the compliments and hope to see some of you guy's numbers.

I agree, the only way I feel I get a good flat bench workout is doing negatives to fail with a trustworthy spotter.

Most I've ever FBd was 295, I doubt I could get 280 right now.

I haven't maxed in maybe 15 years....
But right now im doing 225 x 10 in 4 sets.
I'm thinking i could probabally do slightly over 300 a few times. I'd like to try but i workout at home and never have a spotter so i have been staying away from weight that can hurt you.

I am hitting 225 for 25-30 times so my guess is youre closer to 275-285. You may be a good low end weight pusher though. 225 is good at any number of reps.

I know a FW City Marshal that warms up with 315 though. I've seen him do 405x12.

3 x 10/12 120lb on incline/flat/decline
Usually supersetted with 75lb dumb bell flies immediately afterwards.
120's are all we got, but I'm willing to bet that I could throw some 140/150's around for a few.
I'm not much of a powerlifter though.

I've seen some of the 150s and even if I could do them they look pretty damn awkward. They are long as hell.

It's no different than cars, there's always someone bigger, badder, and better. Anyone saying anything other than "congrats" has some sort of shortcoming that makes them feel the need to berate another. A cop no less. way to feed the stereotype...

Congrats man, I haven't even been under 315 in a year (I broke my leg exactly 12 months ago tomorrow), and I can only hope to get back there.

Congrats to the op. But for myself I have hit 315X4 and 365X1. I have never been able to do 300 all my life. I hoping in the next two weeks I hit 405 which I believe that is 4 plates on each side.

I think that you meant that you haven't done 400, and fwiw I couldn't lift 405 when I was repping 315 for 5. The next time I tried though, I was repping 315 for 8, and put up 405 twice, so there's a big gap in there. GL and let us know how it goes. I know that 405 was a pretty big milestone for me.

I think you either misread my post or I did not convey props in an effective manner.

When I said "you're my hero", I was serious. I can't do 315x8 but would like to.

I'm more of a 295x6 kinda guy. Bench as always been my weak point. I'm a shoulder/tri guy. I just did 275x6 reverse grip bench today for 2 sets.

I'm glad to hear that, because it reads a bit different than that in here. I kinda figured that you think otherwise. The joys of the innerweb.

I can't sqaut 135 (seriously, no shit), you are all my heros at this point. I can military 225 for 8 though, so don't consider me a pussy just yet.

My squat days are over thanks to the ACL reconstruction surgery. My military press for reps stopped at 215, but that was with a spotter. I could probably get to 225, but I don't have a regular partner. Here lately it's been hit and miss with having someone in the free weight room or if someone is there, they probably aren't capable of spotting my weight. When I hit the gym the majority of people there are mid 40's or older.

Are you done with rehab for the leg?

Dang..............I am weak!!!
I started in March of this year and I could only do 160#!!! It was completely rediculous. By the end of May I could do 255# I was pretty happy with that for me. I have had 3 back surgeries, and currently have a hernia. I took about 2 full months off and it was really tough to get back on the schedule again. Just started going 4-5 days a week again 2 weeks ago. In that amount of time, my bench fell to 230#
I would like to get to 275 by the end of the year.

I agree completely!
I've done the 140's before at Stroud's, but they honestly felt a TON heavier than the 120's.
They have the 200's there, but I save them for tricep kickbacks only!

Think that is long, google a 300lb dumbbell!

Ok, now I'm wondering....

Is that 2 150lb dumbells, or 2 300lb dumbells?

I can't see anyone using two 300lb dumbbells. Can you take a pic of them?

It's 300lbs per single db.

Check out this old schooler doing a 300lb dumbbell shoulder press!

Here is a 300lb dumbbell in action:

For chest or shoulders using two would be almost impossible. It would make for a very wide grip. Probably to wide.

I agree, seeing a true BEAST doing the 200lb'ers for chest is a sight in itself!
Most that I have ever seen put up on shoulder press are the 150's.

No shit. I wish I had short arms where the bar only travels 4 inches. I'm 6'3 and has long ass arms. It feels like my travel is 4 feet. FUCK!!!! I can do 315X4 but bet if I was short I could do 315X10.
