is it serious?

today i was deadlifting and on the third rep of my last set i went down, when i went to come back up i heard my lower back pop and it hurt, not too bad though, i immediately dropped the weight. my lower back is kinda sore and course the pain is worse when in bend down, but nothing intolerable. should i be worried?

Odds are, if you are able to stand up straight without screaming, you just happened to pop your back during a lift, and the soreness is from the lift. You will know in the morning if it's serious or not, try doing some slow stretching and see if it helps the pain. as long as you just Heard the pop and didn't Feel the pop, you should be alright, but I'm no Dr.

Sometimes lower back pains can be attributed to a weak core which means there's probably a muscle imbalance. I've noticed that if I maintain twice/week core exercises plus 2/week hams then my lower back is typically fine. If I miss one of those days during that week, my lower back starts acting up shortly after or sometimes the following week it'll give me problems if I miss a day the week prior.

i heard/ felt the pop then felt the pain associated with the pop and it still hurts i have had no back trouble before today and its not muscle soreness from lifting. i could barely rack the weight after i dropped it. i can rub where i felt the pop and there is no pain to the touch only when i try and bend over, stand up, or squat down, and a little when i walk. like i said its not extremely painful but it does still hurt. i wondering if it will be more siff in the morning. im just trying to figure out if i seriously fucked up my back.

Probably a strain. Or back cancer. Yeah, probably back cancer.

Certainly sounds like the area is inflamed. You work your back/core often?

Try to stretch it often to keep things fluid. Ibuprofen can help with the inflammation. Do you do any type of plyometrics? Stretch before you lift?

Obviously if this keeps bothering you then you should proceed to the doc to have your back cancer checked out.. lol

I bet a 'tight' muscle or a good bit of lactic acid broke up and released the muscle fibers.

I had one (to me) audibly pop in my neck/trap when I was doing tricep pull downs. It felt like a red-hot icepick was stuffed up the back of my neck. However, it felt a ton better the next day, since all the tightness in my neck was gone.

well mine is still sore but seems to be getting better. i stretch it a few times a day. it really hurts when i sit on the ground with my legs straight out in front of me on the lower left side. the straighter i make my left leg the more it hurts, then i touch my toes and lean foward to stretch it. i havent worked out since it happened (a week), i might take another week off, and go to a chriopractor just to be on the safe side, but i hate not lifting! i might just do some swiming next week.

Look into piriformis stretches. Also, foam rolling and/or rolling your gluts on a lacrosse ball or baseball.

Try this:
i have been sitting on the floor in the groin stretch postion (pic below), and bending at the waist and at first i could barely bend down before it started hurting too much. now i can touch my head to my feet. i like the stretch you are showing me better though. it looks like it will target the sore area better. ill give it a try tonight.
