Your back is nothing to fuck with. I would take his advice or expect making a thread a few weeks from now reading - "I should have listened to my Doctor".

With "I threw my back out" such an ambiguous term, it would really depend on how severe it was. When I first started working out, I had no muscular development in my back. I was going to the chiropractor every other week for one of two pinched nerves and lived in chronic discomfort. Now, almost 1.5 years later, after focusing on my back a bit, I haven't been in months and other than having a tired back from time to time, it's much better. If you don't like the advice of your Dr., consider a second opinion from a sports Dr. They're much better intuned with the needs of athletes and serious hobbyists. Good luck.

You have a very good chance of being in his position... especially from all them heavy ass lifts you do.
A hurt lower vertebrae(such as an injury requiring fusion) will keep you out the gym, no matter how tough you think you are.
Yes, I speak from experience.

It's not worth being a tough guy if the result is that you physically CAN'T work out like you want to. Yes, I speak from experience.

It's only a month guy. Go ride your bike or something like that. Seriously.

My injury is a pulled muscle in my lower back, worst pain I've ever experienced so I will not be going against the advice of my doctor.

I pulled my mid-back muscles close to 6 years ago, didn't take the time out to recuperate properly and am paying for it to this day.

Rub some dirt on it and walk it off. Do some straight legged deadlifts and build that shit up for next time.
