Chicken Breasts

Chicken breats. I need to know where you guys buy yours, how much for how many.

I bought a pack yesterday, $15 dollars for 10. IM looking for a bit cheaper than that, please.

I dont want any of the preservative crap that has a million mg of sodium either.

I buy the fresh ones at wally world. Like 5 bucks for 3. I think they are around 8oz each. Pretty good. Definitely better than those frozen POS's that come a dozen to a bag.

+1 My roommate does all the shopping and cooking but Wallyworld has some pretty good chicken at pretty reasonable rates. I think most are around 8oz which for me is only one breast per meal so the price is really reasonable ($1.50 - $2.00/meat per meal). Good luck.

I work at shipping and receiving for Tyson so I buy 30 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast for 40 bucks when it comes on sale and just throw it all in my deep freeze.

I used to eat those, however, there is more sodium in one of those breasts than half the Atlantic.

Usually every week, at one grocery store or another, they have the chicken breast 1.99 a lb. I think they would have less artificial ingrediants than the bagged stuff. Know which ones i'm talking about?

Organic from the butcher, at Whole Foods. No clue on price. Probably out of your price range, though. It doesn't have any of the shit in though.

Not really, but this fucking shit isn't cheap. I can think of many better ways to spend my money.

You need to go to the Pilgrims chicken plant in Dallas. Cash sales, you can buy all the chicken you want.

This is an email I sent to a couple coworkers several months ago. The prices may not be the same but they should be close.

For those that eat lots of chicken or just want to save a few bucks, I found out they have extended the hours of cash sales to include Saturday. They are open from 8am until 2pm.

The physical address of the plant is 1900 S Central Expressway but the cash sales office is located on the other side of the plant. Using your favorite mapping software, navigate to the 1900 S Central address. When you get to the light, turn left onto Hickory and follow it to Good Latimer. Turn right onto Good Latimer and then right again on Ferris Street. There might be a guard directing traffic.

I have attached a map of the plant. You will park where the map is marked red. You make your purchases in the office marked yellow and pick up your order from the loading dock marked in green.

It is important to understand, they only accept cash and everything is no frills bulk, fresh or frozen. When you walk into the office, they normally have prices sheets on your right. While waiting in line you can walk to the office and get one. They also have specials written on white boards once you get closer to the pay window. If you don't have coolers large enough for a box, they will sell you an industrial plastic bag for .50 cents. I wrapped a 40lb box of chicken in two and drove home without any problems.

You do not want those boxes leaking in your car and dont step in anything wet. It isnt water and it wont wash off.

Examples of what we recently bought.

40lb box of bonesless-skinless chicken breast was $74.50. There were about 100 chicken breasts.
5lb bag of chicken nuggets was $6.25. There were about 115 chicken nuggets.
5lb bag of chicken strips was $7.00. I didn't count them, but there were about 8-10 quart size ziplocks full.
5lb bag of Italian breaded chicken patties was $10.25. There were about 30 patties.
5lb bag of Spicy breaded chicken breasts was $10.25. There were about 20 breasts.
40lbs Mis-cut breasts on the bone was $24.00. There were about 100 breasts.
40lbs Thighs was $17.00.

They have whole chickens, wings (several different flavors, cooked and uncooked), drumsticks and several other things.

You can call them at 214-565-8633. They wont fax you a price sheet but if she isnt busy, she will give you prices over the phone.

Enjoy!

I'm looking at one right now, 220 mg per 4 oz. That's not too bad.

Thanks a bunch! I will definitly give them a try. The current chicken breasts im getting from Walmart is about 13.80 for 5 pounds. I would be saving roughly $40.

Thanks!

You're welcome.

If you're tight, you can always get the "mis-cut" breasts. Its chicken breast on the bone.

There is nothing seriously wrong with them. The breast bone isn't cut exactly straight so they are seconds. They are just as fresh as everything else that comes out of that plant. Before you buy them, walk over to the dock and ask them to show you what they look like. Its not a big deal.

Throw the skin away and pull it off the bone. And you get 40lbs for around $25.

The chicken is fresh, hasn't been frozen and tastes great.... Not to mention, you cant beat the price...

Not really tight. Chicken breast is something i eat every day for usually lunch and dinner. If im going to be buying, i might as well buy in bulk and save.

Don't forget to check the sunday paper. If a competitor within 30 miles has something cheaper, your local Wal-Mart has to honor the price, 24/7, 365, no exceptions.

Give me a dollar.

What is considered 'high sodium' for Chicken Breast?

I've been eating 100% natural chicken breast from Tyson with broth mixed in.

I don't even know off the top of my head how much sodium it has...but I can check later.

I'm more curious to know, what is 'too much'?

I've been eating them for lunch and dinner for a few weeks.

You going to buy 200lbs a week too? LOL

I just get the Great Value Walmart brand for $6 and it is a 3lb bag.
Get you some Stubbs marinade and mix that in with a bit of brown rice and mixed vegtables
and you now have yourself a perfect meal.

Sodium 430mg per breast(18% of DV).
I would not consider this much, but then again...with the amount of water that I consume, I could careless about my sodium intake.
The beef jerky that I eat daily, pretty much kills any sort of sodium intake limitation.

Good to hear.
You should definately notice a difference in the way you feel and the way you look.

I would not consider this much, but then again...with the amount of water that I consume, I could careless about my sodium intake.
The beef jerky that I eat daily, pretty much kills any sort of sodium intake limitation.

Good to hear.
You should definately notice a difference in the way you feel and the way you look.
I hope so. I really want 160 with single digit body fat. Eating this way i havent gained one pound. Ive been at 150 for almost 3 weeks now. I know if all im adding is muscle its going to take longer but i dont want to get three months down the road and still be 150. I need to know if im not doing something right so i can correct it now.

I do however feel stronger. Yesterday when i did back i did 150 lbs lat pull downs for 10-12 for the first time in a long time.

Eating is only half of your battle.
You NEED to push yourself to your limits each time you walk in the gym.
That in turn is what produces results.
Just look around and use others as motivation(knowing in your mind that you look better and work harder than they do).
Everybody in there wants pretty much the same results,
it's just that some achieve those results while others just dream about them.

Is there a reason why after some work out im not sore the next day? In the past whenever i bust ass in the gym i could barely move the next day. I have been pushing myself everyday and there is to much inconsistancy. One week this body part will be sore and the next it will be like i never even touched it. But after each workout for that day i cant fucking move im so exhausted from lifting.

That could be in part due to your body rebuilding tissue faster and also your training.
The first week of working out, you are nothing but sore, then your body becomes somewhat "used to it".
You should definately be sore the next day or two, otherwise I would advise upping your intensity.
Sometimes I will even frequent other 24hr fitnesses to change up my routine.
Change is good.

Thats what i figured. WHen i mentioned week one and week two that was just an example. Im almost 2months into working out again and sometimes im sore sometimes im not and i go to complete failure for almost everything.

Do you stretch after your workouts? That helps a lot. Like Stangin said, though, you shouldn't worry about the sodium in those breasts, it's not astronomical, and as long as you are taking in as much water as you're supposed to, it's not gonna make a difference. Most of it is in the brine they get frozen in, and drains off as it dethaws.

Enjoy!

I just called as im on my way up there and the 40 lbs of boneless chicken is $69.30.

Sorry, Nate, I had already left. The place was fairly easy to find besides the rugged ride thru the Congo, and nearly sending the girl into panic attacks. The process was not that bad either. I waited in line for about 5 minutes, walked 10 feet, and picked up the goods. I would take Dan's advice though and not walk in ANY "water"; and if you dont mind looking a little silly, a clothes pin for your nose as it smells like satins asshole. Also, bring something to put the box in as it has a "drip" to it.

PS - If you want to avoid the scenic shithole tour i would make a RIGHT on Hickory and not a left. Other than that, THANKS DAN!

Some pictures - The total came to 106 chicken breasts for $68.80.
