Swimming to tone up?

I have started swimming every night at 24 hr fitness in Rockwall to try and tone back up. I was just wondering if any other girls (or guys) have done this and actually had results and what excercises or swimming techniques you do to see results. I wanted to take a water aerobic class, but walked in and everyone was my great-grandmothers age and they told me it would not be beneficial to me at all. So that sucks.

I just need to find some excercise routine that I know will work and obviously want to stay away from the excercises they are doing since they are still floppy.

I am also doing a pilates class, 15 minute ab class and sitting in the steam room for 15 minutes.

Swimming is about as good a cardio workout as you're gonna get. It's full body and burns calories like crazy. Looks like you are doing all the right things. I don't know about the water aerobics though.

Yeah thats what one of the ladies was telling me, that its better than any machine I could ever use because it works every part. I just didn't know if I should swim a certain way for it to work, or if anything works. One guy was telling me to do squats and leg lifts in the water to. I only have a certain amount of time to work out because they only watch babies for so long, so I want to get the most in that I can and know what to do and what not to bother with.

Is a steam room better than a sauna? Because I was sweatin my butt off!

I swam 3-4 times a week last summer. It rocked, better then any other cardio. You get a full body workout in 30 minutes and don't have to do anything else. I havent been in the pool much this winter becuase the pool at our 24 fitness is never consistant in its temps so I figured I would wait till spring summer to start swimming again.

You can just swim laps, I usually will swim 16 laps, which is a mile in our pool, may be different over there.

You can also grab one of the little boogie boards, hold it out in front of you , and kick all the way down. Keep your legs tight and use your whole leg, dont bend your knee's. After a few laps it will burn.

I sometimes will just go down to one end with my arms, no kicking, and return with just legs kicking and now arms. That way you use your whole body, and it makes it a little harder.

Will all that take care of like the "love handle" areas too? I just don't want to have that "She had a baby" look

back when i actually had free time i got into doing triathlons, ended up doing a half ironman in conroe a couple years ago and i was swimming 1500 meters 3 days a week and running 6-10 miles 2 days and biking 50 miles on saturday and i got fucking ripped from the swimming. went from 180 lbs at 6'1 to 225 and my arms and chest got buff. couldnt believe it after all the pumping iron i had tried for years to no avail. id be careful not to swim TOO much or your back and shoulders will get bigger.

Not to mention that it is the lowest impact on the joints.

How you gain and lose fat is completely genetic, but getting your BF low enough will most likely take care of your problem areas.

I wouldn't do water aerobic stuff or w/e. I'd spend that time swimming laps. I love to swim and I believe it is the best cardio workout you can get? I started swimming a few months ago started out i couldn't do more than 4 laps at a time. Now i'm back to swimming 40laps as a warm up. Feels awesome too.

Don't talk about it! Be about it!

There is no way this girl has love handles. She was a teenie bit before the baby, I would imagine it ain't much different now.

I love hearing that excuse. There are plenty of women that have had multiple children that don't have a "baby belly", it's simply a matter of being willing to do what it takes to get rid of it.

Try the Tri-Lean kit. I had a c-section and its flat in that "area"

I am doing it. Have lost almost 30. and dropped 2 pant sizes. So it is making headway. I just can not get the results I want here. I had a really bad c-section and it took a long time to heal. It is definitely not an excuse. I know I was lazy after the baby was born (shit he is almost 5 now). But at least I am trying. I have seen a big difference in my lower abs it just doesn't go as fast as it gets put on! LOL.

Thats good!!! I have dropped a little over 40lbs and in a size 3. I have 10 more lbs to go! I am trying to get back to my 0's. Try an ab class, thats what I have been doing, its 15 minutes long and it definitly works.

Between the ab class, body pump, kick boxing and 2 miles a day on the elliptical, I am getting better. That and cutting portions, calories, dropping Dr. Pepper, not so many fried foods and a whole lot more salads, it won't be long....
