Need Suggestions

I work out almost every day and I seem to be gaining muscle in my legs, which I don't need. What can I do that will not make me gain the muscle but will just help tone them??? I have been running any where from 4-5 miles every time I work out. I already have a muscular build so the last thing I need is more muscle.

TIA

Cut back on the exercising then. Simply losing fat will tone them so rely on diet.

Whatever leg exercises you're doing, you need to do less weight and more reps, that's the key to toning up.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

A good exercise for toned legs is the stairmill, which is the stair stepper that looks like an escalator.

You will still gain size with high rep workouts (albeit less).

More cardio, less calories, less resistance workouts. Take your diet from "pretty good" to "damn good".

lower weight/more reps does more for muscle conditioning.

Lose more weight.

If you're dieting, clean it up some more and knock 200 calories off. Lose any carbs after 7-8 PM.

eating healthy is one thing. Consuming minimal calories and a fine tuned diet is another. you're going to need to lower calorie consumption, and really plan meals well. Or you can pick up some weight loss supplements.

Any type of resistance exercise will typicall build muscle if done enough. Lowering weight and increasing reps will still add size.

Nail on the head! Women's muscle fibers are different than mens. Men's fibers intertwine and womens go straight out. That's why women get cellulite. The only way that you'll get more toned legs is to increase the size of the fibers which will also increase the size of the legs. How many chicks with normal sized legs have a lot of muscle tone? Which also, in my opinion isn't all that sexy.

And this running you say, it's making your legs bigger????

WTF?

Something doesn't add up here. You need resistance (heavy weight) to build mass unless you are some freak of nature....

I'd bet your legs aren't as big as you think they are if you are just running on a treadmill with no incline.

Of course there is the possibility that your body favors bigger legs and they will get large with little incentive to do so. My biceps are like that, I can do next to nothing and they will get large and out of proportion in no time. I'm sure it has to do with genetics.

I have a muscular build.. so I am always like this but I feel like I am a little bigger. When I was younger I would get tone by running and they wouldn't get bigger. I do need to get more tone and lose a little bit of fat in some places. I just wanted to make sure there aren't other things I can do at the gym that will help with this. I'm not fat, but am not where I would like to be just yet. I can run 5 miles with no problem, but I don't want to keep gaining muscle when I just want to slim then a little and be tone. Ugh...

You're gonna have to resort to the measuring tape. The mirror can be deceiving, I thought my calves were shrinking, but I checked my measurements from last year, and I actually gained an inch. I measure on the 1st of every month and keep it in my journals.

I think you've just lost some of that ass and decreased your kankle diameter... It gives you the effect of having bigger thighs.

ahh, you sound just like my wife. 23" muscular legs look much better than 23" fat legs.

She's short and has bigger legs from genitics like you.
She runs over 50 miles a week no joke and now that i have her doing weights they have toned up and look much better.

One route you could try is to overwork your legs. Burn fat as well as muscle.

This is what she said originally. Since she omitted any lifting moves, I thought she just forgot to add it. I figured she wouldn't gain size without training for it, so I specifically asked.

Understand?

And I substituted 'legs' for 'workout'

It is a must we see so we know how to advise. Other than just feeling them in the dark

In all honesty, I'm gonna need a pic to determine what might help your cause. Not trying to be weird, so just post something that you work out in. Need an idea of your build. You could be in great shape, and genetics just won't let you get the body that you want, which sucks, I know, but it's reality.

I was a PT (physical therapy) major (technically kinesiology, I quit before grad school) before I decided that I hated school so I've taken a lot of classes on muscular build. Don't know if I'll be able to help or not but without a base, I have nothing to go on.
