My legs are getting strong quick...nice gains in just 3 weeks.

I started working out 3 weeks ago and on my initial leg workout, I was able to leg press 330 3x befroe failure. Fast forward to yesterday and I was able to do 560 6x w/o failure. I didn't push it any further than that because I had more workout left. I could barely push the clutch in on the drive home yesterday. I've got the whole rubber band feeling going on today.

Nobody said anything about maxing. 500lbs on a leg press is nothing. Probably comparable to about 250lbs on a free weight squat. I'm not trying to bash the guy, just telling him that squats are where it's at.

I'm not comfortable doing squats...even if its just the bar. I've done a few though. And 500 may not be much, but I just started working out 18 days ago. I'm more impressed with the gains in a short period of time than I am with the actual weight.

Why are you working out with so much weight?...Hell I can squat 500+ myself...but I don't do it. On leg days I do 4 sets of 12 with 225...try some free weight squats

Don't blow a back or knee out...

I don't guess it was too much. I didn't even do it to failure. Started at just over 400 and kept adding plates until it got pretty intense.

On leg press? That's decent, but nothing phenomenal.

This thread is depressing, I haven't done legs since October, and am just now able to do the recumbent bike for more than 10 minutes...

Well it all depends...
I see people cheat on leg press all the time(hands on knees, not going deep enough, etc...).
10 plates on each side(900lbs), going deep(almost touching knees inches from chest) is pretty impressive for reps.

No worries, I remember you had pretty big legs for your size, you should get it back fairly easily.
You just needa stay away from the damn booze!

That's the first to go, thank god I've got the transformation contest to light a fire under my ass. Alcohol an depression mix all too well, time to get outta my head funk. It'll be a while until I can hit legs again though, it still hurts to walk, and my right leg is a good inch and a half smaller than my left at the moment.

I may never reach 230 lean again 'cause of leg issues, but the fat's gotta go. I'm looking forward to progress like the OP is experiencing, oyu don't see progress like that without juice at this point in the game. lol

Sounds like a good way to have a mediocre physique, and good potential for injury.

Squats really are the best thing you can do. The form is very important though.

When you've got that rubber band feeling going on make sure you get all the protein you can get into your system and you'll get strong as hell in no time.

I did sets of 12 with 30lbs on the leg extension machine this past thursday, my right quad quivering the whole time. I don't see how I can NOT improve.

I've only been lifting for 4.5 weeks with 1 week off for damn near having the flu and I had never done squats/deadlifts before and I am mad at myself for this.

First week I did 135 on squats and wasn't even going down far enough, felt like I was going ass to ankles until I saw the cell phone vid I didn't believe it.

Friday I did 225 x 2 with pretty good form and was fairly happy and had the rubber band feeling. I know it's not much for some of you guys but I'm making a lot of progress every week on form and adding weight. Hell the first two weeks was at 135 and just working on form and I just about fell down a flight of stairs each day after.

Deadlifts - good god...I don't think I've ever used some muscles in my back, I still really am not adding much weight but just working on form. I'd rather deadlift 135 x 10 properly then 185 x 10 shitty, at least I think that's the correct way to think about it. But I am amazed at the results I've noticed personally in my legs just from the few times I've worked out.

I consistently work out with about half that weight and have never taken a drug in my life.

Also, I don't need a calculator to multiply by 9. LOL....

I'll never compete. I've got a rod and 10 pins in one ankle, and a reconstructed ACL on the other leg... :-(

That's good man, improvement is better than stagnation. Don't let all these haters get you down. I posted the Coleman vid as a response to all the "badasses" who warm up with 1000 lb leg presses. LOL. Who gives a shit how much you lift, unless you are a competing powerlifter like Greg, it doesn't matter. I would rather have my body and squat less than the guys with fat guts who can do more.

I love Squats and Deads.. nothing like carrying all that weight.. yourself! Feels good. Form form form and you won't get hurt.

and yes I know I am a skinny fuck, but I have gained 20lbs or so.. and on my frame, I can feel it. Back when most of you all hung out with me I was 158-160 @ 6'2"!!!

Im right around 180 now.. but I am a little heavy for my racing class. need to chop 5lbs, which i can do in fatassness no problem.

Hey that's not bad at all man, honestly. It also depends on how much weigh you're lugging around also. Bigger dudes can press out more because every time they stand up or go up stair's they're setting their baseline - so depending on your weight, that's good.

I guess I owe you an apology. I percieved you posting that Ronnie Coleman as a jab that the OP couldn't do shit and reciprocated.

It pisses me off when someone comes into a forum and claims that they are improving and someone shoots them down. Instead of encouraging them, people alienate them. There's no better way to discourage someone from continuing something that is a postive.

I warm up with the rack and one plate per side. I don't care if anyone ridicules me or not. I'm not going to injure myself due to pride, and if someone doesn't like it, they can kiss my a$$.

When the "Most interesting man in the world" needs advice, he calls me.

Yeah, kind of like when someone says, "anyone can look like that on roids" even though every part of a pros life is eating, lifting, breathing bodybuilding?

You know damn good and well that without the juice they would have ZERO percent chance of looking like they do. Period!

I'm not saying that you can swallow a pill or shoot an injectable drug and *bam* you look huge and gain muscle. I know there is a lot of training involved and eating discipline to get cut. But take the steriod out of the equation and you don't have a chance in hell in placing in a pro competition.

Please tell me I'm wrong.

haha, go play cop somewhere else.
It's about being the biggest freak, they dont care what they have take to get there and neither do the fans. Same with the world strongman, people want to see freaks. I dont use steriods but i understand the game.

Without roids though, he wouldn't be where he is. A good friend of mine went through a cycle, working out maybe once a week, and gained 20lbs of what looked to be pure muscle. I'm talking skinny 150lbs kid to being a jacked mofo at 170lbs.

There's a reason people do roids. They work...period. It's nuts just how well they work.

i dunno i can leg press 1500lbs for reps but only squat around 365 for a few reps
