Doing my first 5k

Doing my first 5k in McKinney tomorrow. I'm not in the shape I used to be in, but all proceeds go toward the Veteran's Memorial so I won't let that stop me. Dedicating my run to all the troops & the sacrifices they make. I'll let yall know how I do!

not a clue, this is the first time i'm doing anything like this...I typically run a mile in about 8:30-9:00 so i'm hoping to get it done in under 30:00. Then again, it's been a while since i've ran so we'll see how it goes.

Good luck. I ran a 5k last year and it kicked my ass! In no shape at all. Now I could probably do it better.

I had a blast with it! Before the race, they played the Star Spangled Banner, then we got lined up and went at it. Once the run started all the nervousness went away. At about the 1.5 mile mark my left ankle started to cramp up on me. I never thought about steep inclines in a race and this 5k had a few hills. (lesson learned lol) I kept at it, figuring I can worry about my ankle when I'm done. I was determined to run the entire thing and made it my personal goal not walk any part of the race. I stopped for about 4 seconds to rotate my ankle a couple times just so i could get some flexibility out of it and then double timed it to where I should have been had I not stopped. I was gonna sprint once I saw the finish line but I figured that would be too cheesy so I just kept my pace. I finished in 35:00 flat. I figured that wasn't bad, considering I had no idea what to expect and didn't train for it at all. Surprisingly I placed 3rd in my age division and earned a bronze medal to go with it.

Definitely doing another one! It was one of the most gratifying things I've done. Freedom is not free, and I enjoyed every second of giving back and saying thanks for all the sacrifices that have been made for us.

After that I packed up and went camping overnight at Eisenhower state park and did some rock climbing & hiking, so today my legs are pretty pissed off at me

congrats,
I live in the Austin Area and there is nearly some kind of run every weekend. The best 5K I have ran in so far is the moonlit margarita Run. Nothing like running a 5k then chowing down on mexican food and maragaritas
