Snack type food.

Ok first things first, I workout during my lunch break at work and eat lunch at my desk. Because I work in a call center I can't fix just anything, it has to be something that's fairly quick and easy to chew. Reason I say that is cause I've tried powerbars and meal replacement bars throught the day but they're just really chewy and I get tired of those. The most common thing I'll snack on during the day is oatmeal, turkey sandwich, and sometimes crackers. The problem with those is they aren't very filling and I'm hungry again 45-60 minutes after I eat. Any ideas? What are you guys eating that fills you up but is still a fairly quick fix?

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

I work in a call center as well. Theres three things that get me through the day and are easy to chew.
Oatmeal
Yogurt
Protein bars
I usually have a box of oatmeal in my desk, and i bring two protein bars and two things of yogurt.

None of which "fill me up" but it stops the craving for buying an entire meal at the cafe.

How important is protein to my diet if I'm not wanting to bulk up right now?

How many grams of protein should I be taking in if I'm not looking to bulk?

What are your goals again? I would say at least your body weight at the very least, but that is just my novice opinion.

Right now I have no goals for building muscle or putting on weight. I'm currently looking to cut 15-20lbs in 90 days, basically lean up. I"m doing low weight and high reps along with 30-45 minutes of cardio a day broken between the eliptical, treadmill, and stationary bike.

The reason I asked about the protein was the fact that I know if I'm taking in too much of it i could potentially put on weight and build muscle, which isn't what I'm wanting to do right now. I'm specifically looking to cut weight and get lean. I know I do need my protein in my diet but I'm trying to figure out how much is sufficient to accomplish my goal.

Protein doesnt make you gain weight. You're talking like a girl. The high cal. shakes are weight gainers not protein.

Around 150grams a day will be good for you.

Too much of it can be stored as fat though right? Which can lead to weight gain.

No, Protein cannot be stored as fat. That's why the atkins diet is designed the way it is. By limiting carbs, the body turns to burning body fat, when there are no other energy sources coming in.

Typically any low carb diet, forcing the body into ketosis is built around this method.

Of course it can, protein when digested is broken down into peptides and then amino acids. What isn't used is then converted by the body to either glucose or fat. If it isn't used up it is stored in the fat cells. See Glycogenesis. You answered your own question, ketosis is a state that you have to put yourself in, it doesn't happen for the average person.

string cheese and a couple of corn tortillas with hot sauce. Very filling, tasty, and won't hurt your diet. I also take some pre-cooked grilled chicken breast to work since you microwave them, and they are a good snack with protein.
