Do you guys think that my chin-up bar is ok where it is mounted? It is a "Above The Door Chin-Up Bar". I didn't want to install it above my door cuz of the door being in front of me. I installed it in the small hallway of my apartment. I took pics from the inside where the a/c ducts are so that you guys can see if it will be sturdy enough. I hung on it & I heard the wood kind of like a craking noise. I don't want to rip the wall out. HaHa... Let me know what you think.
Second, I would say take it down as well. It's not worth the $500+ in damage it could cause, and a concussion.
If it were screwed into the middle of the of the board, it would be a little more stable assuming the board itself is stable. But it still wouldn't change it too much. Maybe you could do a little reinforcing in the A/C duct to stabilize it.
To put the strength of construction wood into prospective however, I've had a 100lb heavy bag hanging from 2 utility hooks a few times and never had a problem even after the swinging and vibrations those things go through.
