Deadlifts

Ugh... I did deadlifts last night for the first time and holy shit.. Not what I expected but it had a good feel. I got up to 195x6 and executed them fairly easy, but they whooped my ass. I have sore muscles ive never felt before..

I'm not even going to attempt those as my back is already 10 kinds of fucked up, and I know for a fact that I would do them incorrectly and wind up blowing it the fuck out.

I worked my legs the night before last and they're killing me now. Sitting down to take a crap hurts. Good thing I don't have to do that more than once a day.

Goodluck. My legs are almost done recovering. I worked them last sunday and I could barely get up my stairs to my apartment.

DON is doing a helluva job at pushing me as far as i can go.

I worked out calves on Monday.. they still feel like there is a permanent charlie horse in them

I started at 115 i think and worked my way up since ive never done deadlifts before.

deadlifts are good for legs... I know you dont want to do squats but how about hack squats? Its not quite as bad. Also, calf workouts...sitting and standing calf raises.

Dunno, my calfs are still sore there hause, i should be alright though!
I feel them deadlifts from yesterday in my lower back(not a bad feeling) just different.

after reading this thread I throw some deadlifts at the end of my back and shoulder workout, I usually do them on a machine that my gym has, here is how the sets went.

185x10
235x8
305x6
355x4
405x3
445x1

My hands are tore up now because I didn't have gloves with me and it was a brand new bar. It suprised me since I haven't done a traditional deadlift in a few years... felt nice!!!

No it's not a smith machine. It has handles that are turned, it has a carpet platform, you could do shrugs on it and weighted lunges. I have only seen it at this gym. But todays deadlifts where done old fashion way.

hammer strength does have a deadlift machine. I've seen one while looking for stuff my new gym im trying to do.

I didn't feel it in my knees though; however, when I was doing the leg extension today I thought I popped my leg off right at the knee. Worst pain I have ever felt in my knees.
Leg extensions are MUCH harder on your knees than squats.

I went with Don to Metroflex today and did deads for the first time in probably 4 years.
(Yeah, I did a halfass day a few months ago, but that didn't really count.)

Yeah, i will probably do some deadlift. I still dont see the point driving twice the distance and paying +$10 to do something i can do at 24 and not look half as stupid.

I have personal experience that doing heavy squats, even with good form, over a long period of time can absolutely be hard on your knees. I have a feeling that all of you professing the virtues of squats are still fairly young...

Actually, a couple weeks ago I was having trouble with my shoulder after only two sets on the bench, maybe it's just me.

Sure they will. The coppell location didn't seem to mind me banging 405 around while the mamas and the pappas got their workouts. Not my fault the wheels make a lot of noise when they hit the hard floor though.

We got lectured and basically told that 24 Hour was a "fitness center" and not a "gym" and that certain lifts/workouts were "frowned upon."

Don could tell you more. He had a nice 5 min. talk with the manager.

I could maybe see a problem if y'all were making alot of noise, but otherwise, he can fuck off, I'd keep doing deadlifts.
