Courtesy at the gym

if i have to unrack some huge ripped guy's weights off the bench again, i am going to strangle somebody. how hard it is for mr. ripped to unload his shit? really. come on now- you are going to leave it behind for me to unload your huge 45s? i'm not a wimp, but when i go at lunch, i am in a hurry usually since i have to get back to work and the last thing i want to waste time doing is unloading someone else's shit, especially when it is like 4-6 45s. i swear next time i am going to make a public announcement and ask who is the idiot that left their shit on there. every single day i have lifted this week, i have had to unload some guys shit.

You know that's funny. I have actually NEVER run into an unattended, racked bar.

And this is at the YMCA downtown Fort Worth, +/- twice a week for 3 years.

I hate that when people put the whole rack of 45's on the squat rack or dead lift bar and just leave it. What can you do though?

This is one of those things that drives me crazy too. If you've got the strength to lift it, you've got the strength to unrack it. I always unload the bar/machine no matter how tired I am. It's a courtesy that seems to have been forgotten.

Most gyms have signs that say to "rack your weights". If I were you I would ask a consultant to speak to whoever is doing that. There are some HUGE guys at the gym here and we all just ask them straight out to rack their weights if we see them doing that. You may be surprised, most of the time they are embarrassed and say "Oh yah, sorry".

thats usually a problem, more so around the busiest times of the day. if the trainers at my gym aren't busy with a client, i will have them walking around racking weights and helping people just to keep the clutter down.

its a pain as a trainer, when you are trying to keep a pace to have to unrack 300lbs off a bench or squat rack for a lady that is just using 5's or 10's.

when im done on bench i majority of the time take all the weights off... if someone is waiting i ask (hoping) they start at 135 that way I can leave the 45's on...
and yes I HATE when someone does leg presses and leaves a gazillion 45's on... even though*cough i use a gazillion too...

You sound just as lazy as them!

I always unload and rerack all of my weights,
but I dang sure don't gripe about having to go to the gym to move weight, lol.

lol at being lazy----i am at the gym, aren't I?

but yeah, it's just rude, when i have to unload like 300lbs of weights when i am going to put 5's or 10s on to to bench. i am not some petite little thing, but i am still a 34 yo woman----unloading 300lbs is not what i want to do before i start lifting my own (much less) stuff. i know a lot of guys just ASSUME the next GUY will do as much as them.....i guess they never even think a girl might want to use it and can't do the 45s?

half the time, i don't know who left it that way or else i would say something to them. but i go at lunchtime when it is actually not crowded and is slow too- you would think they would take a few minutes to unrack.

lol- i don't use a machine for squats or bench (or a lot of chest for that matter). You can tell Alan taught me. lol doesn't mean i am some body builder chic (way far from that) that can unload 300lbs easily.

and i am not the only one, i see a lot of chics doing bench and squats and not using the smith machine

it's 24 hour at coit and campbell----there are some hardcore chicks in there sometimes and others like me (not hardcore or all ripped) that just were taught without machines. I used to work out with Alan, so i did what he did wiht the exception of deadlifts. Alan made me do the bench instead of the smith machine since you get more out of it having to balance yourself too- right? so now i always do that as well as squats minus the machine. it's harder, but worth it i guess.

Free-weights are far better for sculpting a well-rounded physique than machines, regardless of sex. The girls that use only machines are either scared or simply haven't been show what to do and how to do it.

Nothing wrong with machines though.
They are great for isolation movements...ex. Peak and holds on the bi's, or even negatives if you do not have the luxury of a spotter at your convenience.
