Curls

Is there any part of the muscle on the forearm I'm missing if I'm doing underhand curls, overhand curls, and hammer curls? I'm wanting to target the muscles around the first half of my arm closest towards my wrist along (have small wrists) with my forarem. I'm just not sure if what I'm doing is targeting that area.

Also is there and difference in doing curls with a straight bar then one of the non straight bars?

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

If you really want to build your forearms, add some specific movements at the end of your workout.

Can you elaborate on that a bit as to what you mean?

Is that pretty effective? I've heard of that before.

Curling a straight bar behind you with your wrists will work out your forearms.

The rope pulley will help. Here are some others.

I've never done a forearm specific workout, and my forearms are plenty strong. Heavy rows and lat pulldowns without straps works them plenty.

I admit I've done it in the past. Never did anything for my strength, so I quit. These days if I can't grip it, I don't lift it, my forearm/grip workouts are heavy deads and pulls.

Raven what do you mean without straps?

There are grip assist straps that some people use for their heavy pulls (deadlifts, pullups/downs) that help you move more weight, but can compromise your grip strength.

I'm not really going for strength because I get alot of forearm work out just with my guitar playing. I'm going for size though, my arms in general are pretty small especially up towards my wrists. If you look at my pics in the thread you'll see what im talking about.

Oh I gotcha, are they the leather looking things that you'll see wrapped around the guys wrist and they generally wrap around the bar too?

Even with straps they work them plenty.

That's it, they're usually woven nylon, though.

It is an inch wide woven strap with a flat loop sewn into one side. You wrap it around your wrist, slide the end through the loop, and then aroung the bar/handle. It helps take some of the weight off of your grip, but I don't use them unless I am going heavy enough that my reps suffer because my grip releases.

Even for size you don't need to do specific forearm lifts. They are mostly genetic like calves, you get what you get, though you can make them stronger.

Deadlifts and heavy back movements with no straps will hit your forearms the hardest.

Do heavy deadlifts, rows, and pulldowns. Even a heavy set of curls will get them working.

What's sad is, I know you're being facetious, but in my case it's true. Maybe it's that I took most of January off, but my grip is failing WAY too early when DL or rowing heavy.

Dumbell and barbell shrugs always gets my forearms good from the heavy grib. I deadlift a lot also.
You can't make you wrist bigger, just the forearm muscles. Like calves it takes years. I have girl bones, very tiny wrist and angles.
