Protein shakes....

Looking for recommendations on protein shakes... First, Im looking to gain some muscle and put on some mass. I have read you need around 1.5 x your body weight in protein. Whats a good shake? Im trying to lose weight, so are carbs going to be bad? I weigh 160... Id like to lose atleast 10lbs of fat.

Now my girlfriend needs to gain weight but we have to watch the carbs. She is diabetic so carbs are a no no for her. Any recommendations? She needs to gain weight. She is 5' 4" and barely weights 100lbs. She wants to tone up but she just needs to gain some weight without adding the carbs. She likes to run so some carbs will be ok just not anything like GNC's weight gaining formula that has 320 carbs per serving. A shake cant have more than 30 or so carbs.

geez...after more and more reading...what all suppliments do I need? Lots of conflicting info.

I like the APC Time Release Protein mix. I use vanilla, doesn't taste too bad.
http://www.amazon.com/Protein-People...dp/B000UV2HSC/

8g of carbs (5 dietary fiber, 2g sugar), 23g of protein.

I had some friends who lifted quite a bit and really liked those.

Back when I worked out more, I used glutamine for recovery and creatine. If you are looking to just tone up I personally don't recommend the creatine, as you'll gain some artificial water weight. The glutamine though isn't a bad idea. JMO, hope it helps.

I like the ISOPURE, Its mix's really well & the Choclate taste just like Choc milk. It has Low Carb or you can get 0 Carbs
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/nb/lowcarb.html

What ever you do. Don't get this stuff. I bought it & it doesn't mix up well at all. It just clumps up at the top of the shake. BIG NAME doesn't always mean quality

ABB makes a 50 gram RTD shake that is as thin as water.

So while want to lose fat... do I want to cut down on the carbs? I know cabs are needed to help protein turn into muscle...but what is to much?

one hour after hitting the gym or any serious cardio (1 hour or more), I eat minimum of 25g protein and 3:1 ratio of complex carbs to it.

I use the ON Whey Gold Standard Vanilla. I could never stand the flavor of protein shakes but this one isn't bad. With milk, a banana, strawberries, and ice, it makes a damn good smoothie.

If you're trying to lose weight but maintain muscle mass, this formula will give you a rough estimate on your total number of calories: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-ca...dict-equation/

With that number, figure out what kind of Fat/Carb/Protein ratio you want to use and figure the exact number of calories per type. Remember, there are 9 calories in every gram of fat and 4 calories in every gram of carbs or protein.

For example, I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head, but I wanted a diet with a slight caloric deficit. I figured to maintain my weight, I'd have to consume 2600 calories a day. I lessened that number to 2100, broke it down into a 20/40/40 ratio, and figured out my exact calories for each.

Send out my CD!

Working on a bowflex isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Its all about finding the right settings to maximize the resistance while keeping form. I can actually break a good sweat on mine. I'll have to pony up for another pair of rods to increase the resistance.

the best place to get info on stuff like that is the bodybuilding.com forum.. alot of good info and reviews and logs from people using all supplements..

from what i can tell you,, ON is what i believe to be one of the best... anything from muscletech is junk, bsn is junk, and if your gonna buy supps, buy them from bodybuilding.com, the price is cheaper and you dont have to put up with the idiots at gnc.

"first of all........fuck you guys."
