What kind of art are you looking for? Striking or ground fighting? And have you been in any arts before? Your location might help some too.

I have a MMA/ Survival Solutions class but it would be a little far for you to drive.

This is where I went for 4.5 years Slider...

http://www.authentickungfu.com/

Instructor is a no-nonsense badass, and one of his best students is a buddy of mine. Really good guys. Two different forms to choose from. Praying Mantis for graceful, Wing Chun for brutal.

I'd also suggest checking out some local MMA stuff. There's certainly room for the traditional arts, but it you're going for a well rounded "sport" with real world applications, it's hard to deny a good mix of striking and ground work. That said, I enjoyed the hell out of Kung Fu. I'll probably go back someday when I have the time/money.

Well, in that case, I'd highly suggest Wing Chun. Doesn't get more technical and fun with hand work than that. Chi Sao 4TW!

I think realistic weapons training that is "environment sensitive" is really good training. If you wanna go scrap in bars, then I can agree with you. However, if I am defending my family after going to a movie, etc, against 2 people, I wanna be able to use everything, (ink pens, knives, etc) in the most efficient way possible.

It's all about what you are preparing for, ultimately, if you can, you should do both.

Anyone ever train at Corkran's in Lewisville? I am looking for something between Lewisville and Denton.

More interested in the ground game but no problem with getting better stand up skills.

I sorta did a couple times at UNT. There was a group of guys that would meet up a couple times a week in the coliseum to practice MMA stuff and once in awhile Terry Corkran would show up and have his way with us for fun. I had a great time getting schooled. He's a pretty big dude to, I couldn't do anything, I did manage to make him break a little sweat, that I'm proud of But then again, I was like the 2nd or 3rd guy to face off with him
