its even better if you use it at a supersport where they only go up to 120lb DB's, and half of the members are 60+ just trying to stay in shape while you are on the incline throwing up 315 like its something special and grunting so everyone in the gym can hear you...

How many times are you hitting 315 on incline.
Reping 315 incline is special.

well, first of all it wasnt really reping. it was 4 times at most per set. impressive for the average joe i guess, but not for the guy that is in the gym 6 days a week weighing 220+ with a low BF%.

i've never tried 315, i usually stick to 225 on incline. then again, my goals arent trying to see how many times i can rep 315 on incline. i play soccer and basketball 6 days a week, and bulking and trying to strength train dont really go along with that.

315 for 4 on the incline? Who's your chemist?

Seriously, that's a pretty decent lift, and I don't remember you being all that big. Granted, it's been a couple years...

eh....6' ~185 and last time i checked 12%bf.

i guess being around the gym all the damn time, i see a lot more lifted than the normal person would see being there for a couple of hours.

Sorry for the cynicism, but they must be half reps. Im 2 inches shorter, 25lbs heavier, at the same bodyfat, and would have a time getting 4 or 5 solid reps (to the chest) of 315 on incline bench.

i wonder what i could incline if i put my mind to it. i know that i dont like the range of motion. iwould stop it above my chin because of my shoulders.. maybe i should try it every once in a while. I know that before i fucked up my shoulder, i could incline almost what i could bench.

..and when it happens they aren't weighing mid 180's. I could see it on the decline possibly, or maybe on the smith machine, as it is counter weighted.

I think that he was saying that he saw a guy repping 315 on incline.

Last Thanksgiving (before I stopped lifting) I got 315x2 on incline and I was pretty impressed with myself (full range - touched top of chest then up to full lockout). I do see a guy at the gym on occasion that reps 405 on incline, but I also watched him bench 635x1 one day. He is about 6'8" and maybe 300-320lbs. The guy is a monster!

The smith machine is harder than regular bench.

Must be a different type of smith maching then Greg, the ones at my gym are counterweighted, and I consistently out rep my numbers on the three free-weight benches. Not only is it lighter for a given weight, the liited range of motion negates the need for stabilizers, much like the hammer machines.

Usually people just dont do the math right on the smith machines.

The bar is 10lbs with a smith and 45lbs on bench so they think they can do 35 more lbs on the smith machine.

Right, it's counter-weighted. Even when taking that into account though, the limited range of motion means that more energy goes into the lift, rather than into keeping the bar level, much like the Hammer strangth machines.

I can do a LOT more on the smith that on regular bench. Much more that 35lbs because I don't have to worry about balancing it nor about pushing it up straight.

I do a lot less on a smith, I think its cause I have a strange form when lifting. I don't go straight up with the bar.

I've seen both counterweighted, and simple track bars on smith machines...but I definitely agree that you dont have to use the stabilising muscles, and you can approach the weight at different angles without worrying about it falling. This is what always made it easier to me.
