First Meet = Gold Medal

Just got back from my first powerlifting meet, so here it goes....

Squat-my weak event.

Opened with 150k/330.7lb to get use to everything.
I was worried about going down far enough so everyone told me to start light and go down extra to make sure i get a good one. So i go down really far and I loose my balance. haha No lift.

2nd attempt 172.5k/380.3lb, Lifted it very easy, good lift.
3rd attempt 207.5k/457.5lb, Lifted it easy however the judges said my knees were not locked when i first started. I didnt know that was rule but still my fault. Depth was good finish was good.

Bench - opened with 150k/330.7lb, pushed it easy.
2nd attempt 172.5k/380.3lb, pushed it easy. (video below)
3rd attempt 187.5k/413.4lb for the firefighter state record: slammed into it, stuck half way then pushed it out. No lift, bar slightly dropped halfway. Damn!!

So squat and bench a little upsetting, deadlift is my favorite event though.
My personal record for deadlift is 500 at this point.

Deadlift - open with 215k/470lb, Lifted with ease
2nd attempt 232.5k/512.6lb, Lifted with ease (PR)
3rd attempt they said 255k/562.2lb
would be the firefighter state record so i said what the hell lets do it. I somehow pulled it!! (PR) (video below)
Then got home looked it up and record is 575lbs.

So total of...

555k/1322.8lbs
198lb class Gold Medal
I weighed in at 189 this morning before the meet. lol

I wish my squat and bench 3rd's would have counted for a much better total but it was my first time and i had a lot of fun! Learned alot and i'll do much better next time!!

here's a couple clips....

Weak sauce!

j/k great job on your first meet Greg. That deadlift scared me a little but I guess the lower back survived. How close was second place?

Awesome job, dude! Congrats!

You gonna try to get back down to 181 in the future, or just get bigger?

Thanks Damon, i think nathan was as pumped as i was!!

Tex, im not sure about the weight at this time. I would like to weigh in at 198lb and shatter that bench press record next year. Im killing myself cause i was so close. I lifted the weight but came down a little in the middle of the lift so it was no good. That will keep me pushing hard though.
Really the 181 class was just as strong as the 198 class this year.

Congrats on the gold

I never was able to lift much on deadlift with my arms outside my legs...I always had to get really wide.

And on the bench do your feet not hve to be flat the whole time? or were they and it just looked like they moved because of the vid quality?

nice deadlift. I like the fact you just get in there and lift, not much hesitation at all.

the judges said we could have a our heals up as long as the foot never moves places. My leg was shaking cause i was nervous. haha

Tex- you cant double click the pic and see a video?

Cartman, i was hitting amonia for the first time and i didnt want to wear off.

up early this morning for the solf ball tourny. Really the only thing that's sore is my traps and upper calfs around the back of my knees. Both from deadlifts i think.

Thanks everyone!

Whatever jew pussy. You have to wear a hat, come out, look at the bar, throw the hat down, stomp it, put on some chalk, sniff some smelling salts and then throw that shit up!!!

(I knew a guy who did this on every attempt)

you need to work on your grip. I hate using chalk, in the meets I make them wire brush the bar clean before I lift. The only downside is sometimes, not often, I tear the skin on my hands, but I never drop the bar.

As for the slap, I use it to get angry and fired up, I just have to know that the guy doing it knows when to slap. One guy slapped my neck while I was about to bend down to grab the bar for my lift, and I had to catch myself from falling.

I'll work on my grip when i cant hold the weight with chalk. There no reason for me not to use it. Yeah, i have a lot of skin missing on my hands from deadlift. Hurts like hell.

grip has a lot to do with dead lifts, with the bench not so much but dead lift you need a good strong grip. all the chalk in the world can't keep your hands closed when you lift heavy weight.

you missed my point.. if you have a super strong grip.. but your hands are wet from sweat... it wont help you. plus.. almost every single PL contest i have watched they chalked up for the DL..

Wet your hands with a cloth first, and see how you do. Some people sweat in their palms, others may not.

you really do have a short man complex don't you. at no point in time have I ever claimed to be some bad ass or as you put it he-man in this thread or any other. What I did clam is that grip has alot to do with how much you DL. if you want to use chalk use chalk, me I don't, I don't need it nor like it. I do use baby powder on my legs, but so does everybody else. You claimed grip has nothing to do with it, and you are wrong, but since you can't admit you are wrong you have to start thumping your chest and fall back on name calling.

Speaking of Ronnie, you know that he trains grip as well, he does it so he can hold the heavy weights at the gym. I didn't even know there were things to do that would make your grip stonger till I saw him doing it and asked some people at the gym. So i guess Ronnie is doing it all wrong as well?

I have competed in 3 events took 1st in all three and at the time set a wr in my weight class. And nothing I have said is bullshit, do you work out at metro flex and see ronnie working out? no. does he use chalk, yea, does he still work on his grip, yes, does he tell those that ask about competing in DL'ing comps to work on their grip, yes. so at what point did I "spew bullshit"?

You know what greg don't do grip, just use chalk, cause WL knows all, which is why he has won so many comps. and people like ronnie, branch, and jay seek his advice.

i never said i know it all.. and i didnt say that he shouldnt train grip.. but you stated that using chalk was pointless. yet you yourself say ronnie uses it... so which is it.. Chalk is bullshit? or its not? because i never said training grip was bull shit.. So what WR did you set i our class? please to tell.

Shut the fuck up already, I don't think that you can possibly sound any more ignorant. It's funny that you talk about Dave having "short man" syndrome, yet you're the one coming on here trying to sound like a badass because you don't use chalk. Setting records in the fatass category does not impress me.
