Thumbs up Who is with me?

Signed up this morning.

http://www.ironmanarizona.com/

2.4 mile swim... 112 mile bike... 26.2 mile run... 140.6 miles to find out who you really are.

April 13, 2008

About 400 slots still available and almost a year to get your ass in gear. If its a good weather year in Tempe I'm hoping to qualify for the World Championships in Kona, HI in the fall. Figure I got a few more years to attempt before I give up.

And no, it is not allowed to drive your boat the 2.4 swim miles nor your Mustang for the 112 mile bike.

My 401K is now a 400K (was 301K)

made me throw up in my mouth thinking about it. anything that ends with a 26 mile run is not for me. im pretty sure I could swim 2.4 miles. not fast, but I am very buoyant.

Quick funny story:

Okay, so I am in the Marines and was on a tour in Hawaii(I know, rough tour) and they gave us a few days of R&R. Well, we got rooms at the King Somethin or other at Kona. It was at the exact time as the triathalon and a lot of the athletes were staying at the same place. Well, I was in top shape at that time and had no body fat, so I stripped down to my shorts and walked around like I was one of them. Some lady asked me if I was so and so (I said yes) and she had me autograph a pair of her Nikes and said she was gonna cheer me on tomorrow.

I don't know if they are doing it this year but the PrarieMan Triathlon (1.2 swim, 56 bike, 13.1 run) had an aquabike option last year which was just the swim and bike with no run.

A few triathlons have options like that (not many though)

The road to the Ironman finish closes at 16 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. They shut down the finish gate at this point.

Well schnikeys, I guess I'll have to see if I can trim some time off for the next one.

I've only been at one triathlon where some dude died. They did look for him and eventually his body turned up a day later... about 20 yards from the start of the swim. Best anyone can say was he got trampled on at the start of the swim, freaked out, took in some water and just hit the bottom (it was only 3-4 feet where they found his body). It was in that little lake behind the hotel at 635/Luna. I think it was 1992.

No one realized he was missing until after the race and his bike shoes and running shoes were still in the transition area along with his bike.

The start of the swim is the most stressful portion. People are clawing over you, kicking you, elbowing you, your googles are getting kicked off. It settles down after about 2 or 3 minutes once the group starts to put distance between themselves.

Some dude did died at Ironman Florida last November about 1.8 miles into the swim.

They eventually do sweep the course.

I'm trying to get in to triathlons but i've just started this past month, I've just been riding the bike and running. Probably going to start hitting up some of the running events soon. With this pace I'm going at though, i won't be ready for maybe 2years. lol.

Only aquabike I see this year in Texas is:

Sunday, September 02, 2007 ::: Boerne, Texas: Tall Texan Triathlon

http://www.trifind.com/tx.html

The other thing you could do is sign up for relays. If you can find someone that wants to run and not swim and bike you could do the swim/bike portion and they could do the run portion.

Congrats on the start.

Look for the RunBiTri series:

http://www.trifind.com/tx.html

These are shorter races in the reverse format (run first, bike second, swim third). I haven't done one yet but I do have a few friends that do these because they think they are easier than the standard format. Short races, 5K run, 13 mile bike, 350 yard pool swim.

Also, look for any sprint tri. "Sprint" is a misnomer and just really describes distance. While there will certainly be the elites that can sprint them the middle packers just finish them.

They'll be about the same distance as the RunBiTri except they'll be in typical swim, bike, run order.
