Talking Two pics that pretty much sum up bench shirts

It had been about 3 months since I had been in a shirt. I just got my new replacement F6 in the mail from the Titan rep, the old one was about to blow out. We were under a big time crunch so we just took some weight off boards for triples and such but it felt good to be in gear again. Plan on doing bench only in Houston March 31 at the apf state meet. Probably get in the shirt again before then and figure out an opener.

hopefully low-mid 300s @ 181, which is shit, but my bench is shit haha. I haven't taken a max off the chest in probably 4-5 months, so all I'm sure of after today is I'll probably open around 250. Bench is by far my worst lift so I'd like to do a full meet the 31rst but it's a pain in the ass and one of the three of us is doing the full meet so we'd need another handler for squatting which would be even more of a pain in the ass.

it only stings for the rest of the day, but the marks stay for a week or two.

and for sizing, since it's your first shirt it would be better to get it looser than tighter. It should be tight and a bitch to get on, but you don't want it so tight that it takes more weight to touch than you can press.

Ok, dumbass question here...

What exactly does a shirt do? I know its supposed to help you lift more, but is it from just tight pressure on the muscles or some other weird voodoo im not getting?

Just curious....

It's so tight that when you bring the bar down to your chest it streches tight and with light weight you wont even be able to pull it down to your chest.
So with the heavy weight it's streched so tight it's like a spring helping you push back up.
I wish they would not let anyone use them.

look at the size of the chest plate (in between the arms). It's too small to pull your arms back normally. when you're benching, as you bring the bar down, the chest gets super tight and creates a shelf on the back of your tricep (that's where the marks come from). So you bring the weight down, pause, and then press, and there's a "pop" from the shirt off the bottom so it more or less isolates the top half of the movement.

Seems to me that you are just limiting your strength over the entire range of motion. I may be biased, as I have no want to compete in powerlifting...but I want usable strength, imo. Not just bigger numbers.

When do you ever "use" the bench pressing motion other than on the bench press?

I think powerlifters have more usable strength than body builders.

Hey shorty. Are the Inzer shirts the good ones. That's all the place in Fate carries...

Inzer Rage and Rage X are good shirts. Stay away from Blast shirts, they are junk. Make sure you get a shirt that will be legal in the federation(s) you want to lift in.

I think the Firefighter event is held by APF.
Gary Pendergrass is the guy that sets it up if you've ever heard of him.

I have 4 more months to train. Time to buy the shirt!!!!

but what about the ones that don't seperate the two and a raw lifts as much as a shirt wearer lifts and it is a tie? the raw should win because he didn't have to have help to lift the weight. so in a sense it is cheating. might as well let raw people shoot up some roids.

there are raw feds for people that want to lift raw. there are drug tested feds for people that don't want to compete with steroid users. People can choose where they want to lift.

apf does not drug test, aapf does. There's plenty of people in the apf using test/anadrol/fina/halotestin. There's plenty of people that are drug free too. Truth is there is no competition in drug tested feds.

To each his own.. i like knowing the fact that i can walk into the gym in a t-shirt.. warm up .. and move XYZ weight.. and not have to put on a belt. a shirt, make sure that i tuck and stuck my stomach up a certain way to get the max weight up.. Not to say what the power lifters do isnt impresseive.. hey.. its not me under that big weight.. but i would rather know that i can raw 505x5.. then shifter ,strapped and slapped do 800.

I really think a lot of people feel that way. Lots of lifters think that gear has gotten out of control, but they still use it to stay competitive. The only reason I'm a big fan of bench shirts is because my triceps have always been way stronger than my chest so I get a lot of carryover . I squat and dead in just a belt. I know if I got some double ply metal squat briefs I could squat 50-100 lbs more tomorrow, but I don't feel like spending 155 bucks to do it.

and I don't think there's many powerlifters that wouldn't call raw 505x5 (drug-free) strong as hell.

That is exactly my point, it is all just basic mechanical advantage, and has nothing to do with actual strength. I could put 400lbs on the bar right now, and have Dave help me lift it 5 times, but that doesn't mean that I just repped 400lbs, nor would I be happy with a lift like that. I'm not saying that what you do is "wrong", it's just not my cup-o-tea. I'm doing this for inner strength and physical betterment, not just to see the numbers go up.

What amazes me.. is every time i bring up the any statements about bench shirts on a power lifting forum i get lynched.. I guess since i dont compete.. i dont care about my shirted max.. i just like to work out for my health and fun.. and to know how strong i am naturally.. Dont take this as a bash or attach on the Juiced and or Shirted PL's setting records.. im just saying its not my cup of tea.

a lot of the reason that powerlifters are so touchy about gear is because a lot of people don't understand it and talk too much shit. They can watch a guy squat 1200 lbs and then say "Well he was wearing a squat suit, of course he could do it" and "let's see him do that raw" and my favorite "if I wore a suit I could do that." Squat suit or not that's still 1200 lbs on the guy's back.

There's a big difference with guys like ya'll that just say I'd rather just do what I can raw and if you don't ever plan on competing I agree that's the way to go.

Bench is by far my worst lift so I'd like to do a full meet the 31rst but it's a pain in the ass and one of the three of us is doing the full meet so we'd need another handler for squatting which would be even more of a pain in the ass.
