Nutri-System Plan?

Do you think it works?

I can't/don't cook and I eat out for EVERY meal. It's expensive and obviously not healthy. Do you think something like this would be a good option for me?

Better than eating out. My mom bought it a while back. Some of the food was good some tasted like crap. She lost some weight on it though.

My sister in law did it and she lost some weight...the only thing is with the meals they provide, you have to add something like a salad and some veggies, so its not as easy as they portray...but Ryan knows a guy at work that has done it for the last month and he has lost 28 lbs this last month, so I guess its working for him...

I did low carb, just go to a burger joint and get you some burgers w/o the buns...if you go to wendys and get their 99 cent burgers its pretty damn cheap...

Just a thought

you must have been a good deal over weight then...hah. I would say its a terrible diet because of all the fat and grease you will be consuming. If your goal is to be healthy...fast food in general shouldn't be you main plan. especially a burger joint.

I think there is a common misconception that losing weight and losing body fat are the same thing. There are LOTS of diets that drop your food intake enouh for you to lose alot of weight. Some fat.. some muscle. Keep in mind that muscle is 5-7 times heavier then fat.. so lowing X cubic inches of muscle will make you lose 5-7 times as much weight as the same fat. Most of the people on this forum DON'T want to lose "weight".. they want to drop body fat. If you look at the chalorie intake and disitrution of the nutri system and other such gimicks, sure you will lose weight.. but you will be losing muscle as well as fat because you dont have the protein intake to sustain muscula hypertrophy or recovery.

5-7 times denser, not heaver!

What weighs more, a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers? Bricks = muscle, feathers = fatz

just get a foreman grill and some chicken breasts. it's fast and easy to cook. if you add a few things like frozen veggies and rice, you just made a nice dinner.

add a few lunch meats and cheese and you got a sandwich for lunch. much cheaper and healthier than eating out 2 meals a day.

That's hard to do while eating out every meal.

I'm not sure that NS is any less fatty or full of sodium than what you're already getting from fast food places.

What the heck does a vegetarian eat anyway? If I don't have some meat in a meal, I feel like I didn't eat at all.

I know it's hard to do, that's why I want to stop eating out all the time.

I eat lots of stuff! Beans, tofu, veggie patties, etc. for protein.

When I went through my veggie phase back in my twenties I lived off this (well, something very similiar):

VEGETARIAN BURRITOS WITH BLACK BEANS
AND AVOCADO

4 flour tortillas (6 to 7 inches in diameter)
1 c. cooked brown or white rice
1/2 c. canned black beans, rinsed and drained
1/4 c. canned diced green chiles
1/4 c. canned whole kernel corn
2 tbsp. thinly sliced scallions
2 tbsp. chopped cilantro or parsley
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1 med. avocado, diced
1/2 c. shredded reduced-fat Cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese (2 oz.)
1 c. shredded lettuce
1/2 c. bottled salsa

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Wrap the flour tortillas in aluminum foil and warm in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes until heated through.

2. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the rice, beans, green chiles, corn, scallions, cilantro, salt and pepper. Toss to mix.

3. Divide the rice and bean salad evenly among the warm tortillas. Top each with 1/4 of the diced avocado, 2 tablespoons cheese, 1/4 cup shredded lettuce and 1 tablespoon salsa. Roll up and eat. 4 servings.

My 401K is now a 400K (was 301K)

I'd go crazy.

I'm just thinking that if I was eating fresh vegetables all the time, that NS wouldn't have anything to offer that was comparable. Do you eat any protein supplements, shakes, etc?

Not daily. I eat Jamba Juice and Smoothie Factory a lot and I always get extra soy protein added, but that's not a daily thing.

i guess it depends on what you want to get out of it.. i dont know a single Veggie freak who can hold onto any substantial amount of muscle. even with all the tofu and soy protien, it just doesnt work as well as other "meat eater" forms.

The best bet for you, since you are a tree hugging hippie

Go to places that cater to the veggie lifestyle, Central Market, Eatzie's, etc...

Buy a week's worth of food on a sunday and have a good variety at home and to take to work.

You're only as strong as you allow yourself to be...

Ever been to Dream Cafe in downtown (uptown) Dallas? Lots of veggie items on the menu and pretty good stuff. Also, the Suma Veggie Cafe in Richardson (on Arapaho) is pretty good. The Suma Veggie Cafe has a cheap weekday lunch buffet.

My wife makes a salsa very similiar to the above recipe (without the cheese, lettuce and rice) in a big batch every weekend and I munch on it throughout the week. It keeps for about a week. I'll cook up some brown rice throw it all on a corn tortilla and I'm there.

The low carb diet isnt all eating burger patties and shit, I was just giving an example since they said they eat out all the time...Most people down talk the low carb diet because u do eat protien, but it is a proven fact that it lowers blood pressure and colesertol...and when you get to your target weight you dont eat all the protein you do in the beginning...

I wasnt that overweight thank you...I was up to 175 at the most and now Im at 125 and have kept it off for over 2 1/2 yrs...and now I eat what ever I want and I dont gain...

Its for the fact that is will Kill you Kidneys if you stay on it for a long time. My friends dad who is a bad ass kidney doctor. Says he would rather say a person 100 pounds over weight that go on an adkins style diet. It is not good for your health, pure and simple.

How does it lower cholesterol when you eat a bunch of animals products that contain cholesterol? (meat, egg, cheese, etc.)
