And someone actually funded this study? Well no shit.
You mean that if I intake less calories than I expend I can... well... lose weight? Wow.
You can lose weight without exercise but it isn't more effective than with exercise.
Using basic numbers:
Calories Intake - Calories Expended = Net Calories
If I sit on my ass all day, I might use 2200 calories, breathing and shitting.
If I add an hour of running in there, I might use 2800 calories, breathing and shitting and running.
I go on a 1800 calorie a day diet (which isn't really good since just breathing and shitting I use up 2200 so some of my weight loss will be lean tissue).
1800 - 2200 = -400 calories
1800 - 2800 = -1000 calories
I will lose 150% faster by adding running to my weight loss program. Not sure how they categorize effective but, being a math guy... I'm going to say adding exercise will help you lose weight faster and the weight you lose will be more of the "bad weight" and less of the "good weight."
